My copy took about 4 days door to door. And that was over the weekend! Spain to UK.

Munster Records have it in stock and send it out straight away. They are a good company to do business with.

Not read it cover to cover yet but I can only repeat what has already been said - it looks great. It's nice to see stuff you've got alongside stuff you can only dream about. And again, some of the pictures I've never seen before.

Thanks Ignacio Julia. And thanks alfredovu for the heads-up. A wonderful homage to the greatest band ever. :D

Just arrived in my hands.

It seems to be a good book with a lot of pictures, cd and vinyl covers and (but this will take a little time) a lot of things to read and know.

I just received my copy today. I live in Australia and it took only 13 days from the day I received an e-mail acknowledging my order to the day it was delivered, which is really good from mainland Europe. Excellent service and Munster is great to deal with.

I'm looking forward to reading the book over the holidays. It's smaller than I imagined but the layout is very nicely done. Most of the photos and illustrations in this edition are different to the original Spanish edition and there are a few real gems.

Thought i'd post some pics up of a few spreads in order to persuade those who are not sure about the contents to buy it!

I think its beautifully printed and i like the way the boots are worked into the band history. I also think the portraits of the musicians (who were influenced by the VU) holding up LPs are great.

Ignacio has done a great job in updating a much loved VU classic and we should all thank him for his work on this project. Merry Christmas Ignacio!

A GREAT REVIEW FROM DUTCH NEWSPAPER "VOLKSKRANT"

Image

January 2009, Volkskrant newspaper

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND EXPLAINED, AND FOR REAL

The best book about the V.U., the band of Lou Reed and John Cale, was for many years only available in Spanish. Now there finally is an English version with many extras.

During the mid-80?s two books about the Velvet Underground, considered as main references on the New York rock band centered around John Cale and Lou Reed who wasn't successful during their existence but later became one of the most influential in rock, were released.
In 1983 Up-tight was first, the now classic story about the Velvet Underground written by Victor Bockris and Gerard Malanga, Andy Warhol's assistant during the Factory years. The Velvet Underground were the houseband of the Factory from 1965 to 1968. Three years after Up-tight, the book Feedback by rock journalist Ignacio Julia was released. Only recently this book was translated to English.
On it's release Up-tight was proclaimed being The Book about the V.U. (Bockris would become the ultimate expert by also writing books about Andy Warhol and Lou Reed and participating on the John Cale autobiography). Julia had to wait longer to be recognized as an authority on the Velvet Underground. For many years the book was only available in Spanish, which is not a language to write about rock music.
What made Feedback different from the other books was that Julia had extensive interviews with Reed and Cale, but the main voice in his book was Sterling Morrison (1942 -1995). The second guitarist and bass player of the band who almost never gave interviews.
Feedback was available for English readers through The Velvet Underground Appreciation Society, who included an English translation for free. But it had a lot of spelling mistakes which is why Sterling and Julia didn't want to be connected to the translation. Julia then translated the book himself, it got published as the core for The Velvet Underground Companion (1997) but with no illustrations. The book was edited by Albin Zak.
The extended English version record label Munster has put out is lovely illustrated with pictures and memorabilia we have never seen before. 162 pages have been added to the original version from 1986, much of this has been published in Ruta 66, the rock magazine of which Julia is the chief editor. Interviews with Reed, Cale, Moe Tucker, singer Nico and Doug Yule, the bass player who was introduced by Lou Reed in 1968 after John Cale was kicked out of the band. Two years later, when Reed quit the band himself, Yule became the frontman of the Velvet Underground. But this was only a shadow of what the original VU had been. He would keep the band together until 1973.
This huge addition to Feedback was needed because a lot happened after 1968. In 1987 Warhol died and a year later Nico followed. Reed and Cale decided to put the past behind and recorded for the first time together since White Light White Heat (1968) . This became Songs for Drella (1990), a tribute to Warhol, a beautiful record, but then they stopped working together soon after that because of a fight. The reunion of the Velvet Underground seemed more far away then ever.
But in 1993 the reunion took place. The concerts were great, but for the third time Cale and Reed realized that they didn't want to work together ever again. Julia writes about all these episodes to complete the story of the Velvet Underground, with love and affection, in Feedback, at present the most comprehensive book about the band.
Sterling Morrison enabled Julia to write the book from the interesting perspective of a silent force. He died in 1995 of cancer. Moe Tucker told Julia that she never thinks about the Velvets anymore. Cale and Reed, they only talk about their own projects on the last pages of Feedback. No words about their old band. Those last few chapters are because of that a bit superfluous. But they make clear that the main players of the Velvet Underground have announced the official death of the band.

PRAISE FOR THE NEW BOOK
FEED-BACK/THE VELVET UNDERGROUND: LEGEND, TRUTH

Distribution by Munster:
http://www.munster-records.com/catalogo ... t_145.html

ENGLISH

??There is not much else one could hope for when uncovering the secrets and little-known info about the VU and chronicling the sweeping, well-documented influence that the band has had on a global level. This is essential reading for both the diehards and those with even a minimal interest in an ensemble of musicians that forever shaped rock ?n? roll??. (Angela Zimmerman, Crawdaddy, USA)

??A fine book about the best band ever!?? (Humo, Holland)

??I?ve recently received an interesting-looking biography of the Velvets: Feed-Back/The Velvet Underground: Legend, Truth, by Spanish writer Ignacio Juli?, much of it based on Juli??s interviews since the mid-70s with the band?s fractious principals, the most recent interview with Lou, when he was touring Europe with the revival of his Berlin album??. (Allan Jones, Uncut, UK)

??Fantastik!!!!!! Beeyootiful book? And I?m honored to be
in it! Wow!?? (Thurston Moore, Sonic Youth)

??Fantastic job you've done here with that book! Once again your book is a must-have for any VU fan??. (Olivier Landemaine, The Velvet Underground Webpage)

??The VU book is great! So lovely and well put together. The Sterling Morrison and Nico stuff is incredible, really insightful. Thanks so much for this!?? (Chris Brokaw, Come)

??It's a wonderful book. I love it. It looks lovely. Good selection of pictures. And I think this will be me my favorite book about the VU/Lou Reed!?? (Bettina de Voos, www.loureed.nl)

??Fan-fucking-tastic! It looks so great. Really digging all the new material and interviews. So cool!?? (Lee Ranaldo, Sonic Youth)

??The best book about the V.U., the band of Lou Reed and John Cale, was for many years only available in Spanish. Now there finally is an English version with many extras. (?) Sterling Morrison enabled Juli? to write the book from the interesting perspective of a silent force. He died in 1995 of cancer. Moe Tucker told Julia that she never thinks about the Velvets anymore. Cale and Reed, they make clear that the main players of the Velvet Underground have announced the official death of the band??. (Menno Pot, Volkskrant, Holland)

??It looks beautiful??? (Dean Wareham, Galaxie 500/Luna)

SPANISH

(Juan Aguirre, Amaral)
