Lou Reed - Winter 1970 demos: a query

Post by jimjim »

Just finished listening to these. Absolutely fascinating stuff. Kill Your Sons in 1970???!! Wooah.

I have one question though - which end of the the year are we talking about when the date is as vague as 'Winter 1970'. If it's Jan/Feb of that year, these would then be VU songs. Pre-Loaded home demos if you like. If it's Nov/Dec, then it's before he met the Robinsons in July 1971 (according to Bockris) and so these would be home demos recorded while he was temping, allegedly.

I really hope it's the former as these 12 songs would really be a find to this listener. Anyone know more?

Well, I have to climb into the way-back machine, put on my thinking cap and go back to 1978 or so, when I first heard these tapes. From what I recall, they are almost certainly post- VU, not that Lou could not have written some of them during the Loaded era. By the way who remembers Lisa Robinson from the early USA network, she was the rock & roll correspondent (wit the Noo Yawk accent) on the old Night Flight and Radio 1990 shows in the early 80's, hence Lou being featured on and showing up on those shows. This is a nice clean version, better than the one I had back then. Great to hear it again!

Come to think of it, Richard Robinson produced Lou's first solo lp. It only makes sense that this was recorded post-VU.

Can I please echo stooge?s request for these to be put on RS, megaupload, YouSendIt or similar.

I know this involves a lot of work by someone and I understand people?s reluctance, but I can?t use torrents just at the moment either and I?m sure there are plenty of others who would appreciate hearing the demo?s discussed here. It would be greatly appreciated.
