Sweet Bonnie Brown Is A Real MODERN LOVER

Dispatches disc 3 / track 5 @ 3.00

Decide for yourself. It's "only" a rehearsal, but, well, torrent it, or something...

Does no one here get it??

It really ought to be obvious enough.

Hard to imagine all of the local "experts" are stymied?

Well, maybe not SO very hard to imagine...

That's a line from the song, as Ludlow says at approx 3 minutes in.

Hey Upsetter,

That's what I heard. Though the rehearsals were in SF, this got me thinking. Mere conincidence???

With Robert Quine as well? Seeing that some of the Quine tapes were recorded very close to the date (November 1969). Was Lou setting out American music of the 1970's? :D

Well, no question JR was a keen VU fan. And that the original Modern Lovers were by a wide margin the finest, & first (original?) US outfit to channel the VU vibe. I just find this little snippet in the rehearsals a fantastic illunination into the origin of the Mosern Lovers name.

If it's a coincidence, well, from this point on I refuse to believe in coincidence! :D

The Stooges debut LP had "We Will Fall," which may be the first example of "channeling" the VU, if not Cale's experiences with drone. The Modern Lovers, however, may be the first great VU imitators.
