Northampton has a ways to go. I am really surprised that they didn't have a show planned for Boston. It has been 5 years since a show in Boston. Boston has always been really good to Lou.

Oh well, Northampton will be sold out by show time. Umass Amhearst is right in the area , there should be alot of last minute college kids getting tickets.

Well, I was chekcing them out on youtube http://youtube.com/watch?v=YRvXj3SY-Zo
could be interesting or could be a trainwreck. I might be interested in a very short set.
I don't know how much I can take of the chick yelling out in a language I can't understand.

The last few times I saw Lou he didn't have an opening act at all. Before that he had really good ones
in Victoria Williams and Luna.
I saw Lou in '89 and he had the Del Lords as an opening act. I was (and am) a huge Del Lords fan- they absolutely rocked that night!

As of a couple days ago, I saw the Northampton pre-sale was sold out.

Yeah the presale was only a couple of close rows. (and after I got 8th row , the bastards put 2nd row on sale.THey wouldn't do any exchange or returns and I see the fucker who bought them up put them on ebay.)

Calvin Theater is one of those cool places where you can see what tickets have been sold and what''s available. That way you can get specific seats like an end seat. http://www.nbotickets.com When I checked earlier it seemed half of the back lower were available and most the balcony but the first 2 rows.

My buddy lives near the venue and said it sold out for Lou in 2003. It will prolly sell out with the walk ups day of show.At Kingston,NY show last year there were people giving away extra tickets for free.

I'll bet Boston will be added to the schedule. That's 45 minutes for me as opposed to over 2 hours to Northampton. I wish he were doing the Berlin show...

I thought the same at first, now I would be surprised. I figured he would play the Orpheum either the night before or the night after. When the night before and 2 nights after got booked I lost any hope I had. Not to mention Northampton is far from selling out. Also, no new dates have been added in a week and a half after new dates were coming every day or so. If he does have an Orpheum show I would be happy and go to that too since it would be less than 30 min away.

hmmm.... They are showing Thurston Moore opening in Northampton. Not sure if the opening act got changed or different act in different cities.
Info comes from the Calvin Theater's own website.

After SXSW , Can I dare to dream of them playing "I'm not a young man anymore" together ????

Northampton,ma 4/20

Best Lou Reed show I have seen in a long long time. I'm set free was worth the drive alone. Got kicked out/shut off at every bar in Northampton after the show , had a blast!

Thurston Moore did a 3 song set. Missed the first song , second song was Cohen's Hallelujah, and the third was a nice long drone piece.

Lou's Setlist:

Mad
Sweet Jane
I'm set Free
Ecstacy
I'm Sticking With You
Power Of The Heart ??? (New Song)
I Wanna Know
Halloween Parade
Video Violence
Gaurdian Angel
Magic & Loss

Encore:
Pale Blue Eyes

Well, my first (and possibly last) Lou show was fantastic! He seemed to be having a great time, as well as Tony "Thunder" Smith and Steve "The Deacon" Hunter, both of whom had huge smiles throughout the night. A short set, roughly 1hr 15min, but they played songs we rarely are treated to. I could have lived without Perfect Day, but it made the night complete I suppose.

The club was packed to capacity (about 1200) with an audience of mixed generations. Lots of 50+ folk and lots of 20+. I saw a few parent/children combos as well.

Unfortunately, I had my camera "confiscated" at the entrance as I walked in, but no big deal.

Lou hit the stage in casual attire. Nike sneakers, jeans, and a black satin/shiny t-shirt. He was in very good voice as well...I don't even think his voice cracked once.

He was quite the taskmaster...reminding the keyboard dude to play a particular part...telling Rob Wasserman where to play on his upright electric bass, telling Thunder to play louder! He wasn't a dick...he seemed to relish his role! Steve had a fantastic solo during Video Violence, and Lou's solo during I'm Set Free was intensely...Lou! Great to see him jam like that.

Lou played a few guitars (all w/ fantastic tones). Wish I knew what his gear was!

It seems that Lou has a roadie who keeps an eye on his guitar cable. Whenever that thing unwound more than a foot, some dude was there to put it neatly back into a coiled pile!

I am not 100% sure about the setlist, but he covered a lot of ground (not in order):

Mad
Sweet Jane
Video Violence
Power of the Heart (new)
Halloween Parade
Guardian Angel
Magic & Loss
I Wanna Know (The Pit & the Pendulum)
Guardian Angel
Perfect Day
Ecstacy

Lou - rhythm guitar/v
Mike Rathke - rhythm guitar
Steve Hunter - lead guitar
Rob Wasserman - upright electric bass
Tony Smith - drums/v
Kevin Hearn- keyboards/synth/v
Sarth Calhoun - "live electronics" (if anyone can tell me what he actually does, I'd be grateful)

Lastly, my brother and I were standing next to this intensely annoying old lady, who kept shouting for "Hangin' Round!" Then she wanted me to take a picture with her camera-phone (the answer was no), and then she kept going on and on about her "6foot 1inch son" in the audience. Thankfully, I used my brother to block her annoyingness, but he wanted to punch her!
