Velvet's Genuine Bootleg Series

Post by Nuno »

Hi Everybody,

Following the excitment of the recent Gymnasium boot, here's a new post in the HotWacks website...interesting and exciting news...:

"As their next installment of the ongoing Genuine Bootleg Series, Scorpio has announced that the next feature will be a VELVET UNDERGROUND 3CD set that will include the 1967 Gymnasium soundboard from master source tape and NOT from bit torrent...other highlights to be included are approximately 1 hour of uncirculated material from the Quine tapes including both rehearsals and an uncirculated 1969 show, uncirculated demos and upgraded acetates...the set is yet untitled but will be limited to 500 copies worldwide..."

Check it out at http://www.hotwacks.com/ .....have fun.....

Looks like you have to be a member to read the article. Is there any more information? Like when is it expected? What are the other tracks?

What has bought about this sudden activity? Is everyone who has had copies of the tape for years now wishing they'd cashed in? Was the LP rushed out before this 3CD set got to market or is this a response to the LP?

Also I admit to having never heard of Scorpio or the GBS before this. Anyone know anything about them?

Yes, i guess that you have to be a member to have more info from this site...i'm not a member anymore though, but i guess that more detailed news will follow shortly from some other sources...

Regarding Scorpio, from my point of view they're one of the most seriously commited (and with unprecedent access to some great gems)bootled labels around...in the past they've released 4 Genuine Boot Series on Bob Dylan and these four volumes (well, the first three anyway - the 4th has just came out...) are amazing pieces of work, both for the music and for the packaging....and yes, they're pretty limited....the Dylan titles reach amazingly high prices on ebay everytime they come up....

I beliebe that we're in for a tremendous release....in my opinion, nobody could do it better than Scorpio....so let them surpriseus once again...

I think both "Problems In Urban Living" and the last year's "Boston Tea Party 1969" 4-CDs pack are from them. NFI about the 'Genuine Bootleg Series', though. :?:

I agree 100%. The Dylan boots they have issued have been superb quality and with packaging to die for. If they do the same with "new" VU material then we'll all be in heaven.

BTW I thought I had read a long time ago that Robert Quine had erased his VU 1969 rehearsal tapes.

Any ideas about the "uncirculated 1969 show" - maybe the mythical "Seattle soundboard" recorded at the Trolley Club.....?

None really, but simply because it suggests it's more material from Quine, I wonder if it completes a show that we have partly heard on the Official Bootleg series? Mind you "uncirculated demos" has me busting a nut too. Cale's tape that was meant to be on PSAS anyone? Maybe not, but I live in hope.
