Matrix tapes gossip

Post by PhantomRaspberryBlower »

This is from "asezen", posted in the comments on the Philly show torrent on Dime. http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-deta ... rtcomments

"asezen" says
"I traded videos with Peter Abram, who owns the Matrix soundboard tapes.
I inquired about them, with some sort of exchange in mind and all he would
say was that he had them and everything on double lp VU live 1969, except
I'm Waiting For the Man were from his tapes. I have my doubts. For instance
the intro to Some Kinda Love on that set is from Dallas while the song itself is
probably Matrix. Peter, in an interview, said he had his tape recorded on a 4 track
in a booth located in the club. Lou asked for a copy and Peter had his sound guy
make a 2 track copy. Eventually Lou used these tapes for the release while
Mr Sesnick supplimented what Lou had with recordings from Dallas. Peter said
they mixed down his recordings (already down from 4 to 2 tracks) to match
the audience ( and inferior recordings) from Dallas. Peter claims he sued Lou and won to reclaim ownership of the tapes. That last part is vague to me as well,
the interviewer didn't press on how Peter could reclaim what he gave to Lou,
except that Peter proved that he had the superior masters. When Lou supplied
the rock and roll retiree Sterling Morrison with copies of the tapes, Sterling didn't
like the idea of having them released as he felt the Max's shows had more energy and were better. my two bits on dime"

A few more snippets of info there...

thanks so much for this! from what i was told a few months back by someone very connected with the "bootleg" series and those involved with creating it, lou has put his foot down: no more live velvets will be released. [by a record company ; )]

Good golly!
This is exactly the kind of gossipy stuff that makes me nutso!
There's only one other person closer to the Bootleg Series than yours truly, and he would never say something like this.

Heres the place to set the record straight Sal! Whats the state of play with the bootleg series - any more volumes going to be released?

Have I missed something? Where did comment #2165256 come from? Dime?

I can't get onto Dime anymore so was unable to check.

Thank goodness for Sal. I would have been most depressed if this had been true. Living in hope is what I do best.

Thanks PRB for posting the comments from "asezen".

There will be more live VU releases. Don't ask when because I don't know.
I'm in my mid-forties and am quite certain that it'll happen in my lifetimejavascript:emoticon(':)')

What I really object to is the uninformed casting Lou Reed in the bad-guy role. He could not be further from that. Lou doesn't need me to stick up for him, but I defy anyone who has had any real contact with him to describe him as anything less than civil, charming, and generous!
