Lou Reed - 2000-06-06 - Berkeley Community Theatre, Berkeley, CA
Description
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've always felt that Lou Reed has been overlooked as a guitar player. Guitar players like to talk about tone. Nobody had a tone quite like Lou. When it came to the use of distortion and feedback, there was Lou and then everybody else.
The 2000 tour in support of the album Ecstasy featured some tremendous guitar playing by Lou. I believe the term nowadays is "Shredding." He does that. If you have never heard the Ecstasy album, do yourself a favor and buy a copy. There's been a lot of talk this week about how influential the Velvet Underground's first album was. The rest of Lou's career isn't getting enough props. The songwriting on Lou's solo albums was consistently strong. Where he ran into problems was in the production department. Ecstasy has no such issues.
Enjoy
