Hi all,
I previously ripped the Velvets 3rd album mono mix from the Sundazed Box Set, that turned out well.
I also attempted a couple of times to rip the 1969 album from the same set (the 'Sundazed 4th album') to lesser results.
After a lot of fiddling, and digging up most of the old gear I used to rip the 3rd album, I've got a new rip with much better results.
The new, improved rip can be had here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/630 ... d_RevC.zip
Take a listen and let me know what you think!

You're all welcome...hope you have enjoyed it.
After spending an inordinate amount of time fiddling with this rip, trying to get it to sound "right", I stepped away from it after uploading it and making the announcement here. Then I gave it a listen a few hours later. I think it sounds pretty good. What do you all think?
It took quite a bit for me to realize that part of the difficulty in ripping this record was inherent in the record itself. I don't want to say it's "poorly" mastered -- especially seeing as the 3rd album sounds so good in mono and ripped quite easily -- but it's definitely "oddly" mastered. It's the only stereo record in the box, which in and of itself meant that Sundazed had to use a different process than the other records. The vinyl also seems to be of a different quality (I know there has been much discussion in the past about Sundazed's varying quality). In any case, I think I'm finally happy with how this turned out.

Leaman, it's a great improvement over the previous versions. Amazing how different this material sounds just with a new mastering. Drier and a little harder than the 80s versions, I feel.leamanc wrote:You're all welcome...hope you have enjoyed it.

Simon, thanks, and I'm glad you liked it. I was also taken aback that a new mastering job produced that much difference in the sound. At first, I insisted on this board that the tracks were remixed (or at least "different" mixes, perhaps rough mixes from the '60s). Of course, this is not the case, but the difference is striking.iaredatsun wrote: Leaman, it's a great improvement over the previous versions. That rough and dry sound, along with some extreme peaks and valleys in the levels, I think contributed to the digital recording software having a tough time transcribing it properly. I came to this conclusion after ripping some other records that didn't give me nearly as many fits!
