HBO show Vinyl depicts VU show at The Dom

Just curious if anyone saw this. I thought the band pretending to be them did a good job.

Hilarious dialogue. I guess it aims to do the record biz what Mad Men did for the Ad Industry. Myth-making with a good dose of hot saucy toilet action and sexy testo-fuelled handsome power gaming. Glad to see that the VU and Andy W still have some uses as wallpaper furnishing for Jagger's idea of yet another irony-free story of the American Dream. As Lou would have said ? 'Banging on My Drum'.

Does anyone remember those Top Of The Pops albums where studio musicians emulated bands playing top hits of the month? I wish there was one with Lou and the gang being simulated on it. The performance of the VU in that clip is probably the next best thing.

Thanks for the link ? I enjoyed it.

I couldn't listen to the audio, being at work, but the video shows they at least put in the effort to try to recreate the clothing, instruments and stage set up. Based on that, I'm going to try to catch up on the show.

Not sure if I'll bother.

There's been a good convo about this show on the Johnny Thunders forum. I have seen the pilot (about 30 minutes too long) and am gonna watch the second episode after the kids go to bed.

There are tons of timeline errors that drive me nuts, but I am trying to take a step back and watch it with less of a critical eye. My big issue with the pilot was a subplot that centered on an English band that sang songs about boredom and hating New York...in 1973. Said group's lead singer was also a heroin addict and wore torn clothes and a leather jacket. 1977, sure...but '73?!

Agrred. That's the writers cheating with the timeline, having the benefit of hindsight. So they're trying to cram in every hip countercultural music form (punk and rap being show in embryonic form and probably a few years too early)

The show isn't very good, IMO because I don't give a shit about any character except Lester Grimes.

I don't know who he is, so his character means nothing to me.

There apparently is another Lou Reed appearance on the show, but I've stopped watching b/c it sucks.
