how much longer will the original Matrix tapes even last? at this point they will already probably need to be baked in an oven by an experienced pro, of which there are not that many in the world. seems like the owner would rather die first than make some money off of them, which seems all too true of some of the other people that would likely be involved in the requisite permissions. ditto the 66 Columbus tape, but at least that one has been transferred to a more permanent storage medium. let's hope that the Matrix samples that were around mean that the originals have been saferly transferred.... ???

I listened to the Matrix samples yesterday and as each song ended I cried a little screech at the letdown! Oh if only the entire songs were to be made available.

That's why every missed opportunity of a release of the Matrix tapes hurts so much...

The answer may be here:

http://olivier.landemaine.free.fr/vu/di ... s/cds.html
Technical notes on 1969 Live CD reissues: there are audible crackles on some tracks as if they'd been taken from disc. When the tapes were originally purchased by Phonogram, some of the tracks were taken off acetates rather than tapes, notably Real Good Time Together, Beginning To See The Light, Over You, and Some Kinda Love. Levenson speculates that what probably happened was that "in 1969 they made recordings on two-tracks and then cut acetates, and those became the masters". It would appear that Polygram never had access to the so-called eight hours of tapes that Paul Nelson compiled the original 1969 Live from. However the acetates and tapes that Polygram were given for the CD did include some extra material. For some reason, this included two studio out-takes of Ride Into The Sun complete with vocals (which appear on various bootlegs). Also present were the two extra songs used on the CD releases, plus an acoustic Rock 'n' Roll entitled Rock 'n' Roll Movie (ed: I guess this is the version offered as bonus on Live At End Cole Ave bootleg CD), which apparently collapsed fairly quickly, and a live take of I'm Sticking With You (ed: maybe the version available on the scarce CDEP companion to the French 1990 Polydor box set). Both these tracks were considered unsuitable for release. When Levenson mastered the tapes, he decided not to compress the sound, believing that the hiss at the start of some tracks was a fair exchange for retaining what little clarity the tapes had at top end.

well here is what i do..i will send the full set to aral, i trust him...and let him do with it what he pleases..maybe he will post it? i am a record guy, not a download collector really..i wouldn't know how!
consider the source?? it' the best, why? hahahah
reason i hold back on this stuff is that everytime i gave something up for some project..someone elses name later appeared on it..and you wonder why i hesitate?? oh well...
