... so this morning I settled down with a black coffee and taped some bits of Lady Godiva's Op. I reckoned any differences in the mix (between US promo and UK stock mono) would show up there more clearly, rather than trying to distinguish between 3 or 4 versions of the 1st second of the title track. Although the UK version is boomy and bassy and the promo is bright and light(er), it's The Same Mix, with diff mastering*. The difference I was hearing in the first sec of WL/WH was probably the bass walloping in rather than the backing vcl being different. So - sorry about that and thanks to arzep for bothering to check.

At least it looks like we are agreed that the mono is a diff mix to the stereo.

*as this is a yellow dj promo copy, it might have been mastered for radio play, hence the brightness.

This is actually exciting. I've been wondering for years what the story is with WL/WH mono, and now finally, we're giving it a serious look.

So, what's the consensus now?

WLWH mono editions - definitely a different mix, not just a stereo fold?

WLWH mono single - stereo fold?

US/UK pressings of the mono LP - same mono mix, but different mastering?

Is that right?

IMO, the stereo & mono LPs are different mixes, but the single just has the mono LP mixes.
