New boot report

Post by iaredatsun »

The mono acetates Cd came today. My initial (and unverified) observations are:

VU & Nico.
Yes, its an acetate (or acetates) and yes it has different versions of key tracks. Its noisy and there are a couple of tracks where the needle jumps 2 or 3 times. Having said that it sounds great - noisey but the music has real bite. Its like hearing the Doc Boggs 78s transfers - the material noise of the crackling acetate infuses the sound with a historicity and yet still the music comes searing through. It rocks. Really.

The track listing on the sleeve is wrong. Here's it:

1. Heroin. 6.18. 'In know just where I'm going...' different vocal nuance and was that more viola squeel I heard? I hope so.
2. Venus. More defiant, snotty , even angry vocal. Nice.
3. Femme - same
4. Run - more same.
5. Waiting. 4.16. a resignation hinted at in the slightly mannered vocal
quite diff guitar parts. No piano anywhere.
6. ES. Business as usual? Same chair screech ? but then the lead guitar sounds louder different and song goes on for near 9 whole mins! Yet still very close structure to released version.
7. Angel. 3.31 Same? Dunno but the wierd meandering bass/guitar(?) line sounds, well, more wierd to me.
8. Parties. 5.48 Single track nico vocal is more vulnerable.

Yes.

Anyway, don't take my word on any of this.

I'm sending copies to those who know and someone amongst them should be uploading soon.

If someone wants to send this to me I can send it to a pro mastering enginner and see if he can remove the clicks and pops without compromising the sound quality.

I think this is gonna be one of those occasions where we can really work together as a fan community here. If iaredatsun is kind enough to share this with a few of us, as he's said, then let's really try to work together so we all get to hear it. If each person who gets a copy passes that on to just 3 other people, and they then pass it on to 3 others, we'll all be able to enjoy it in no time!

Here's hoping - I can certainly say I'd be happy to copy it on if one came my way.

BTW, no "I'll Be Your Mirror"?

Hopefully, rahter than ship it out to other people, it will be Bit Torrented so EVERYONE can have immediate access. http://www.dimeadozen.org sounds good to me!

Anyways, not to steer the thread entirely off topic, I refuse to trade CD-R's anymore. I cannot count the number of generic/crap discs burned with inferior machines that I received during trades, only to have to reburn them later. Hopefully, I have weeded all of the Memorex and "OfficeMax" CD-R's out!!

There have been a lot of great VU shows torrented at the above-listed site recently, so perhaps The Acetate set will find a good home there!

Long live Rachel.

I can send MP3s to the old brigidpolktapedtheworld yahoo email address, for those of us who don't do torrents...

Yes 'mirror' is there. I forgot to mention but think its same.

I didn't really listen to the Loaded yet but can confirm its transferred from an LP so I guess its genuine.

As for 3rd Lp tracks the main difference I can hear is the vocal harmonising on latter half of 'Beginning'. Also Moe vocal sounds more reverb on 'After'.

One more comment: As for removing clicks by all means try but personally I really like them.
