15 sec. is cut from the middle of Melody Laughter on Move Ba

Post by feelingfresh »

I recently discovered that If it's Too Loud for You Move Back! -- long considered to be the definitive version of the November 4, 1966
Valley Dale Ballroom, Columbus, Ohio performance -- there's 15 seconds literally cut out of the middle of the song!!!

I discovered this when comparing sound quality of different versions of the performance.

UPDATE: Below, I posted my instructions on how to find this by comparing Move back! with Twisted Stars: http://www.velvetforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=22132#p22132

It's high time someone went back to the master of this show and did a really good 24/96 transfer. Move Back is good but I'm sure a better version is possible.

An improvement in quality would be awesome as the quality of the performance is not good, but do you think the quality can be improved? Don't you think the version on Peel Slowly and See would be as good as it gets (the PSAS version is on par with Move Back! in my opinion, albeit a little bit different sonically).

OK! The cut on Move Back! is at 27:27!

Isnt there another version of this show from the Nico beautiful friend vol 1 thats meant to be from the PSAS remastering? I dont have this one so if anyone has it please upload it somewhere. This is meant to be the best sounding version.

There are a couple of mentions here and here. Not much info though. It appears it's part of a vine put together by someone called Jack the Ripper.

How do we know that this "Beautiful Friend" collection contains a leak of the "Peel Slowly and See" version in its unedited form?

hi - I don't want to just be Mr Sarcastic Reply, but obviously we don't know this, only that someone on the internet claims it be so.
I/we/you once believed that the complete version was on Move Back after all.

It might be true, or at least the person who put it together probably believes it to be true, since it's not part of a commercially-produced boot, like MB etc, and arguably a leak from Universal is a more credible claim than 'direct from the original tape!!' or whatever.
