VU & Nico reissue - opinions?

Post by MJG196 »

I have found this to be an EXCELLENT reissue. The liner notes are great, the packaging is great, and the sound is fantastic. As the notes state, this was an attempt to bring all of the official recordings of the origianl line-up together, including several Nico's "Chelsea Girls" recordings.

Again, this Velvet Underground reissue smashes any of Lou Reed's attempts at reissues. Of the VU reissues/box sets...:

-Velvet Underground & Nico
-Fully Loaded Edition
-Max's Kansas City
-Bootleg Series
-Peel Slowly

...all are put together quite immaculately with tracks that have never been heard, liner notes that are a pleasure to read (especially Quine's!), and pictures that most of us have never seen.

Though some of Lou's reissues have outstanding packaging (Take No Prisoners), the lack of "bonus" material is really a shame. Wouldn't a 2 disc, complete-show Rock 'N' Roll Animal be fantastic?! Instead we have a remastered "Animal," which sounds MUCH better than the un-remastered "Live." Too bad Lou nixed the 2 disc set (as the rumors state, anyways).

Well?!

Yes its great, a fantastic reissue job, as is the Max's reissue. I think including the Nico tracks was a good idea as they fit well.As for Lou I would wish most for a special edition Coney Island Baby
