Three new VU books

Post by iaredatsun »

1. The Richie Unterberger book 'White Light/ White Heat: The Velvet Underground Day by Day' has been previously reported on the forum and is now stated to be dispatched within one to three weeks according to one well-know online book seller. Publication date was 1st March. Any indication that this is actually now out anywhere?

The publisher's description claims it the most 'the most thorough work on the band yet published'.

The same on-line book seller lists two other new book for publication late this year:

2. The Velvet Underground: An Illustrated History of a Walk on the Wild Side by Jim DeRogatis. Due Sept '09

3. The Velvet Underground by Lou Reed and Johan Kugelberg. Due Oct '09.

I've ordered the book through Amazon, who have updated the delivery date to somewhere between 2 April 2009 - 17 April 2009. My understanding was that the publication date was delayed.

cover not inspiring, but should be a useful reference book...
the one co-written with Lou will be funny - we can count the inconsistencies with What's Welsh For Zen...

I can't get my head round the concept of a VU book written by Lou, given his disinclination to talk about anything in interviews other than guitar minutiae and how he hates journalists.

Hey, we might get the answers to the Country Gent questions!

upon further investigation I think the "Lou" book is probably the expanded version of the C/O NY, NY catalogue that was mentioned earlier - Johan Kugelberg is behind that - maybe Reed is contributing an essay or something. Time will tell.

Here's the cover from Amazon. It looks like Lou's doing the foreword and Maureen has some input too.

A Happening!

KYA Beat, Volume 1, Number 44, May 28, 1966, p. 13, San Francisco, California

Full-page Exploding Plastic Inevitable picture collage made from photos shot by Howard L. Bingham at The Trip in Hollywood CA. It shows people attending the event but also EPI dancers, Nico, Lou Reed and Moe Tucker.

I bought a copy on eBay and there is one left if anybody else is interested? The item number is 350100509820. Just put that number in the eBay search engine. FYI, didn't think this called for a new thread. Rick :)
--------------------------------oh yeah, I got an email from Amazon yesterday telling me that the WLWH VU book that I pre-ordered, has been pushed back to June 6, 2009. shit!

Hi Rick

Just one of my silly questions ... is your copy KYA or KLRA? Mine is KLRA.I always wondered if there are two pressings of the very same magazine. ( I mean one with KLRA and othe with KYA fronting THE BEAT)

By the way I bought the other day this one: KYA Edition Beat Newspaper, Volume 2, Number 12. Date: December 31,1966. Descriptions reads: "Two page b&w photo collage of various 1966 popular artists which include Beatles, Beach Boys, Monkees, Mamas and Papas, Sinatra and others, including a 3 1/2 x 5 picture of the VU on stage, Nico - Reed - and one other VU Band member" Seller had one left if of your interest.

WL/WH Book: yes: I got same.

Mine says exactly like the photo in ad & Olivers site: KYA Beat (Edition) in small print under the KYA. Volume 1 number 44 SF CA 15 cents may 28, 1966. I have never heard of the KLRA item. ????
