I saw your post today, and thought I'd comment.
The track listing you posted is incorrect. What you posted is an old work-in-progress list of mine, which has been updated. Disc 4 has been totally reworked to feature either original 1969 mixes, or new 2014 mixes that strip away the 1980s technology of the VU/Another View albums. We spent a lot of time working on Disc 4, and we're very happy with the way it turned out!
I hope this list doesn't mislead a lot of SH forum members and fans!

UPDATE: Good news via the Steve Hoffman Forums:
Re: 3rd Album Deluxe - Bill Levenson drops a hint?
I'm suspicious of this tracklisting. For one thing we know from Alfredo that at least some of the 1969 material is remixed, and the length of One of.These Days doesn't check out. Still holding out for some album session outtakes!

Never mind that - two CDs of Matrix stuff including
DISC SIX
LIVE AT THE MATRIX November 26 & 27, 1969 (Part 2)
1 SISTER RAY (36.46)
The full monty!

While I find it good news that those tracks should be better mixes, if that means the rest of the tracklist is correct, I find it overall bad news. A disc wasted on a fold down. Songs missing from the Matrix tapes (New Age, Ocean, Black Angel) and no album session material (alternate takes/mixes). There's enough room left on those first 3 discs for another full CD worth.versionsound wrote:UPDATE: Good news via the Steve Hoffman Forums:

1 SISTER RAY (36.46)
Hopefully that puts to bed the 30 minute reel question
What about the single mixes of What Goes On/Jesus?

Re: 3rd Album Deluxe - Bill Levenson drops a hint?
I'm not sure I understand this published working tracklist. If it is inaccurate in describing the use of '80s mixes for the 1969 material and yet very specific in track timings then it must have been made early on. But does that mean that at one time they were seriously considering using the '80's mixes? So, I wonder whether this was worked up to be approved early on by Lou and John before Lou passed away? And only later that did the decision get made to make remixes. In which case I would guess the tracklist would still be correct as the order can no longer be changed - having been approved.
I also suspect that that Lou did not really like the unfinished demos, poor quality live tapes and bits and pieces approach to reissues. And by the sound of it Cale, neither. If this supposition is true, I would respect them for that.
Personally, I hate it when they add tracks to the ends of albums - like they did with the first two 45th's, so happy the two mixes are one per album. Or three, if the mono version is true. I rather have more discs in the box to hold the extras - they cost next to nothing to make.

Those single vesions are listed at the end of the mono disc. They've always sounded like fold downs to me, but are edited, so that makes them somewhat unique.bobbydriver wrote:1 SISTER RAY (36.46)

That's exactly what the first two sets were like (as well as Peel). Why would it be a problem all the sudden? Lou's gone and John's not on any recordings in this set?iaredatsun wrote:I'm not sure I understand this published working tracklist. I understand not liking bonus tracks tacked onto albums, but they aren't going to make this more than 6 discs and I'd rather have tracks tacked onto the albums than not at all. Or instead of the fold down disc, have a disc of something worthwhile (more Matrix, session mixes/takes, etc). If the tracklist is correct, key tracks are missing while there's plenty of space for them.

I would guess that Lou's gone and if he had given an opinion (or dictated?) on what goes on this CD before his departure, then they are not going to go against it now.rnranimal wrote:

With regards, John Cale. I would guess he is now the main active member of the VU business that has a say but not sure whether it's relevant to this set. I'm just pointing it out as a possible factor here, because the first two 45th's were pretty high quality in terms of selected material and lacked possible outtakes or known demos (WLWH).
With regards bonus tracks tacked on the end. I know they did it before, I don't know why they are not doing it now. As an irrelevant personal sentiment, I've never liked it. But I'm willing to bet that the extra-vs-no-extra-tracks-tacked-onto-the-ends-of-albums issue is not what's stopping them including outtakes in this case. If that even really is the case.
