Quality - 8.5-9.0/10 very good plus to excellent minus
audience recording IMHO as always

I bought this concert tape at a record show about 20-25 years ago.
The dealer assured me that this tape contained the entire show ;
well, the bastard lied to me. Actually, what's here is probably
95% of the show. I don't know if the master tape was also missing
the above-mentioned music (~ 4.25 minutes) OR if the dealer was
just too damned cheap to put the show on a Maxell XLII 100 tape.
Anyway, I upped this because I hadn't seen this on Dime before or
on anybody's list & I thought you Lou Reed fanatics might get a
charge out of listening to & owning this show. Just trying to pay
back numerous good deeds done for me... If you're familiar with
this show OR own the entire show, please chime in with the facts
about this version. Is it complete except for the missing parts,
was there an opening band, is this a common or rare show, etc.
If you own the entire show, PLEASE post it so we all can enjoy it.
I've been enjoying Lou-baby for about 40 years now but am far from
an expert on him or his live recordings. So if you can please
educate me about this show, that'd be great ! I was at a local
record store the afternoon before Lou's concert and Lou was
signing records, etc. I just hung back and watch the man greet
his fans. Hard to believe he's gone...

I wasn't present at the show, so I'll give you a brief rundown
of the recording, good points and bad...

First, the good points:

1) There are no speed problems or any other serious faults
to prevent you from enjoying this show.

2) This is a very clear recording. The vocals & instruments
come through very clearly and distinctly. I think that the
taper was VERY close to the stage when making this recording.

3) Audience talking close to the taper is virtually non-existent.
There is some random shouting & comments but no whistling, screaming,
yelling, etc. and the shouting & comments seem to be at a bit of
a distance from the taper.

4) Hiss seems to be non-existent.

Second, the bad (minor) points:

1) As mentioned above, the show IS incomplete, but only about
5% of it should be missing.

2) My tape of this show was recorded VERY HOT(LY). The color bars
on my tape deck are almost always in the red (maxed out) when I play
this thing. By careful reduction of recording volume on my CD recorder,
I think that I've come up with a good-sounding CD transfer. There WAS
some distortion at the start of my tape (drums) but I HOPE that I've
solved that problem. Tell me what you think. It sounded pretty good
to me. I graded this conservatively, so hopefully some of you will
think that it's really a 9-9.5/10, but I guess we'll see.

So there you have it. This show fits on 2 74 min. CDs. The Syria
Mosque was a beautiful venue that was torn down due to the
stupidity and arrogance of the University of Pittsburgh. The
Mosque was acoustically perfect and many high-quality recordings
were pulled out of there. This is very close to being one of them.
That's about all that I can think of to say, so let's wrap this up.

Finally, please don't buy, sell or convert this show to mp3 or
any other lossy format. Please seed this as long as you can.
Please trade this freely as it probably is fairly uncirculated.
This show will be a welcome addition to any Lou Reed fan's
collection. I think that most of you will love this show.
I will post a sample to help some of you decide whether or not to
download this. So, as Mr. Natural is so fond of saying, have fun,
don't freak out and enjoy the concert !
