Just noticed this update in the Studio & Home Recordings section on Olivier's site:

This is news to me - I'd always assumed that Sunday Morning was done back in late spring/early summer '66, shortly after the rest of the first album material? Especially as the band was largely on tour through November.

What's the source of this info? Is it some educated guesswork on Olivier's part, or has some new documentation come to light?

Could be from the Peel Slowly booklet......?

Nope - the booklet states that Sunday Morning was done in New York after the main album sessions "as a potential hit single", but there's no exact date or location given.

From top of my head i would say that I have read this info also on "Transformer" (Lou bio by Bockris) or/and Deluxe VU&Nico booklet. Will check it at home later

I'm at the office right now so no possibility of source checks, but I've always "known" that SM was done way later than the first two sessions (Scepter and TTG). I think it's mentioned in Up-Tight.

My source for this date is the liner notes from the recent "Gold" 2-CD set. As far as I remember, that November date is also suggested in the Deluxe "VU & Nico" booklet, but the "Gold" credits clearly state "recorded November 1966 at Mayfair Sound Sudios, New York".

Well, couldn't find an explicit mention in Up-Tight, but I *did* find (on p. 77 of the original edition) that the single was mentioned in a Cashbox entry for early December 1966.

Ah - wait, it must have been early than November. The final master for the first album, as reproduced on the artwork for PS&S, is dated October 25, 1966 - so Sunday Morning can't have been recorded after that date. The track title is handwritten at the top of the typed tracklisting though, so presumably it was a last-minute addition.

Couldn't the actual track have been added to the master tape after 25 October though? If it's a tape, as opposed to an acetate, surely another track could be added at anytime?

Interesting that the cover also mentions the 'old' single voice version of ATP, too!
