I'd be intersted to hear what anyone thinks of this:

Very old C60 cassette of the VU playing in New York. There is no casing or cover with this auction. I've owned it since the mid 80s, when I bought it in an old music fayre.

The sound quality is good considering its age.

Tracks Include:

Who loves the Sun, Sweet Jane, I'll be your mirror, Pale Blue Eyes, Candy Says, Sunday Morning, After Hours, Femme fetale, Some Kinda love, Lonesome Cowboy, I'm set Free, You better walk as you talk it.
I'd say it was just a mislabelled copy of the second Max's set except for the last two songs, which obviously aren't on that tape...

OK, but why post-Lou?

Set list is exactly the same as the Aug. 23 set except for the last two songs, which may be from the Max rehearsal tape. I'd say, if someone from the UK would like a gamble and hazard a pound or two on it to see if it's really something new, go for it. But I'd advise against a second mortgage on the house ;)

Cos it's dated Aug 28. You're probably right about the "Aug 23 set plus two rehearsal tracks" theory though.

Oh now I see, it's in the title. Anyway, I'm inclined to think it's just a mis-read "3".

won the auction. he emailed me saying his vu tapes were a bit of a mess and would send 'some vu show.' i emailed that i was only interested in the tape if it was sans lou. he checked and it is with lou. looks like another BS auction...

What the hell is he selling his tapes for if they're in a bit of a mess... And sending "some VU show"... What an A-hole.

Granted, the seller seems to be sort of an idiot using some excuse and then telling you you'll get "some VU show," but to win the auction and then say you are only interested in it if it was without Lou is just as bad (unless I am reading your response wrong).

C'mon dude, the consensus here was it was not the date it said it was and you knew that going into the bidding. You thought you'd take a chance for just a few bucks, so what's the big deal?

I must say that the auction DID seem to be on the up and up. He said it was on some C60 tape he got at a music fair. He also gave the whole tracklist. It was obvious this was an old bootleg cassette tape, dates of which are always notoriously "iffy."

Am I alone in my thinking? Go ahead and lemme have it!

Hey bob, this wasn't meant to be a rant at all, or a "name calling" post, so don't read it that way.

didn't read it as name calling. but the email i got from him was a little more detailed than i typed earlier. he said his tapes were a bit of a mess, as i said earlier. he also said that he'd throw in a lou show from 87 to make up for having no idea what tape he was sending. i told him i was bidding on the auction for a specific tape from a specific date, not any old c60 with some live velvets on it. i then explained that the real interest was in the the show date was 5 days after lou left the band and i was curious to see if it was a show sans lou. he emailed me back that he managed to find the tape that was supposed to be in the case for that date, and it did in fact have lou singing. before i could tell him to send it anyway, he refunded my money. he posted positive feedback, and so did i. the issue wasn't the 1 pound i bid on it, or even the 4 pounds(!) i was charged for shipping. it was that i bid an apple and wanted to send two rotten oranges in place of the apple. dig?
