Match Six of the Second Round is between

Oh! Sweet Nuthin' (off Loaded / Final VU)

and

What Goes On (off The Velvet Underground / 1969 / The Quine Tapes / etc.)

I heart the What Goes On organ sound and that choppy rhythm guitar! That is all I have to say.
Coming soon to this location: charming ruins

I'm gobsmacked that Oh Sweet Nuthin' even made it this far. What was it up against before - a song from Squeeze? Anyway the poor darling didn't stand a chance.

I like the organ on What Goes On (the one time Doug Yule didn't make a complete arse of himself on that instrument). But when I hear the Live '68 version, which seems to occupy the status of missing link between the cale era and post-cale era, I dream about what it could have been had Cale still been a member.

I wonder if What Goes On was written when Cale was still in the band?

Nope. In fact, it was a Cale-era song, Booker T.

No need to wonder, it was. Cale used to play the organ on this one.
