Hi folks-Just found this out so I thought I'd mention it

The reunion tour film that has previously been released on VHS is now due for a release on DVD on April 5, 2005

No idea whether the DVD will feature any extra features, extra songs from the double album that weren't on the single album, etc. Also no idea whether the sound is going to be encoded in Dolby 5.1, DTS, etc.

More than likely though it will just be a DVD copy of the old VHS release

See the details (if you can call it that) on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... =tech-info

Wow! This means I can finally lay my blurry 93 VHS to rest :D

And I can replace my letterboxed Laserdisc version ;-)
Hopefully it will be released in anamorph 1.77:1 aspect ratio...

Even with all its flaws I really like that video.

Flaws? What flaws! I find a close-up of Lou when Sterl plays a solo the most natural thing in the world -- after all, Lou is the star of the show! :P

Heh

Well to be fair they do stay on Sterl during his solos for the most part. During the Rock n Roll solo which is quite extended they go back to Lou showing him watching Sterl and then back to Sterl a couple of times. But I think that has more to do with the MTV style multi-angle production than anything else-they think the viewers will get bored and begin to lose interest if the camera stays on any one person for more than about 10 seconds at a stretch. And since John and Lou are standing closer to each other on stage, they get to show both of them close up pretty well (especially on Mr Rain) but Sterl is standing relatively far away to the stage right and seems to therefore suffer from not being included in a very dynamic band interplay type way.

Still, those closeups of him during his solos on White Light and Rock n Roll (a segment of the latter also deservedly ended up on the Rock and Roll Heart documentary) are worth their price in gold as there is no other footage that I'm aware of that gives such detail of his unique and wonderful left hand technique...Rest in Peace the Warrior Heart of the VU

The biggest turnoffs for me are Lou's butt ugly guitars (as seen in Doctor Bob's avatar  ) and the way he sings most of the songs like he didn't remember the melody. He should have stuck to the Telecaster.

As I acquired neither a VHS or laserdisc of the video, can anyone here point out the source of the video, i.e., are some/all of the performances on the video different from the performances on the CD? And what about the sound quality of the VHS vs. the CD: better, worse, the same?

Heh Homme Fatale those Klein guitars are an acquired taste that's for sure. I bought mine after Lou recommended it to me a while back and I use it when gigging with the Underground Velvets--plays like a beaut! Anyone further interested in the instrument can check out http://www.kleinelectricguitars.com where I think they have a promotional quote from Lou

Hobokenlad-the video has the same performances as the basic CD (not the deluxe double album version). At some point I remember suspecting that 'Some Kinda Love' was different or edited in some way but it might have been my imagination. All the other tracks are the same anyway. As for the sound, well for a video the sound is excellent but obviously not as good as an audio CD. Not that that's an issue anyway since you're probably contemplating buying the forthcoming DVD which ought to have a digital remastered sound anyway.

Hopefully they put the documentary 'Curious' on as an extra bonus, then I could replace that japanese laserdisc as well :-)
