ok - this is just another random post...
lunchtime yesterday popped into Fopp (discount CD/DVD/Book shoppe in central London) and was happy to hear Lady Godiva's Operation, followed by Here She Comes Now....
I mooched around the place listening to the rest of the album (bought cheap Townes Van Zandt comp) - they got within a minute ot two of the end of Sister Ray before the manager intervened and turned it off.

Still, that means that the customers were treated/subjected to all of I Heard Her Call My Name

Last week the Lou complilation NYC Man was being played in the office where I've been doing some temp work. All was going well until 'The Kids' was nearing it's end, I must admit I had to stifle a snigger as one or two of the ladies complained to the office mananger to get it switched off.

Ahh, the simple joys of working retail. Who hasn't tried to play some of their favourite tunes at work, to have someone shut it off. But during those first fews notes or even songs that get played, the anticipation of everyone's reaction is priceless. I remember back in high school, me and a friend made a Ween-inspired album, were quite pleased with it, and had another friend at the local Subway play it for the customers. I don't think they were too happy, but what were they going to do.

I sent my friend some Explosions in the Sky songs, they are a cool 'post-rock' band, my favourite of the genre, and followed it up with, "Lou Reed, one of my favourite musicians/personsdespitehisassholictendencies and he made an instrumental album too. Just, uh, don't play it loud to start with. Or do, really, it's good." And of course I sent him Metal Machine Music (You know how people do the whole \mm/ for the too muh rock for one hand? I do \mmm/ for Metal Machine Music rock!). He said he hated Lou Reed and that he's an idiot for ever releasing that on his name. I proceded to tell him the story of MMM and about the Bangs interviews etc, and I'm gonna burn him Transformer and Street Hassle in apology.

I was in Bookworld last year and they were playing the banana album. It was a real surprise. You don't get to hear this stuff out in the wide world too often.
