Check this page out, I happened to find this Googling for stuff, it's in Dutch (I think) so I can't read it - it's about a singer called Jan Cremer, but there's a '67 photo with Cale and Nico there that I know I'd never seen before.

Well shave my head and call me Kojak! Jan Cremer is best known in The Netherlands for being a sixties counterculture person and beatnik writer. His sex'n'drugs'n'rock'n'roll novel Ik, Jan Cremer is required reading for spotty secondary school pupils who want an easy and sensational book for Dutch Language.

I had no idea he'd been involved with The Velvets. (Jules Deelder and Jimi Hendrix, now there's another story...)

JAN CREMER & THE VELVET UNDERGROUND

Stukje uit een artikel van Hitweek?s Amerikaanse correspondent JAN CREMER. New York, 15 februari 1966:

Haar eerste single I?m not sayin? (Roling Stones Andrew Oldham?s Company: Immediate Records London) werd een groot succes in het Britse koninkrijk, deed vele TV-shows, o.a. Ready Steady Go, heeft zojuist tien avonden voor ?n stampvolle zaal opgetreden hier in NY in de Filmmaker?s Cinematique, met groot succes en met The Velvet Underground (de nieuwste vorm van muziek, Folk, Rock, Pop, Beat, Swing, Alles. Gemanaged door Andy Warhol en waarover een volgende keer meer) is nu bezig aan de recording van ?n nieuwe: I?ll keep it with mine hier in New York en gaat voor Columbia Records een album opnemen met Dylan songs in het Duits en Engels, door haar zelf vertaald. Dus aandacht voor Popsinger Nico ! Zij kan de vrouwelijke Dylan worden.

A snippet from an article by Hitweek?s American correspondent Jan Cremer, New York, February 16, 1966:

?Rembember, take notice, watch out, look out: for Nico, a beautiful, tall, slim German-Polish chick, international playgirl always on the road and on her way to London, Paris, Ibiza and New York, who, after a successful modelling career (featured for years as cover model for Elle, Vogue, Harpers Bazar), fashion model, film star (a.o. in La Dolce Vita) and now is into the recording business. She?s 23 years of age, has seen the world, lovely eyes, gorgeously long blonde hair and a voice somewhere between Hildegard Knef and Bob Dylan. Her first single ?I?m Not Saying? (Rolling Stones Andrew Oldham?s Company: Immediate Records London) was a great smash in the British Kingdom, performed many television shows, a.o. Ready Steady Go, has just finished playing for ten days in a chockfull venue here in NY in the Filmmaker?s Cinemath?que, to great acclaim and with The Velvet Underground (music?s new shape, Folk, Rock, Pop, Beat, Swing, everything. Managed by Andy Warhol and of whom more in a future issue) has now started recording a new one: ?I?ll Keep It With Mine? here in New York and is about to record an album for Columbia featuring Dylan songs in German and English, translated by herself. So attention please for Pop Singer Nico! She may well become the female Dylan.

Christ, that reminds me how truly shit Cremer's writing style was (the rambling "stream-of-consciousness" non-sequiturs are accurately translated above and none of my doing I should add!)
