I don't want deluxe versions that put songs after the climaxes of the albums, that dull certain songs by giving me three takes of them, that repeat other compliations, that leave out relevant demos for no reason. I also don't want a box that cheapens the fun of the original albums. I would prefer someone just took the good demos and outtakes that aren't on the first four albums, and compiled them separately. Here is what I hope at some point is available:

1. The Original Lost Album (with Warhol art maybe)
2. A double CD of demos/outtakes in chronological order

What about everyone else?

I am not quite sure what you mean by "after the climaxes of the albums," but I find the inclusion of demos/bonus tracks with the released material puts the rough stuff in its proper context (a la "Fully Loaded" and "Max's").

On Fully Loaded, its really nice to be able to listen to the finished song and then with a push of a button listen to the rough take...how the song evolved. Essentially, it keeps all of the Loaded era material together. If I understand you correctly, you are saying Fully Loaded would have been better if it was actually 3 or 4 DIFFERENT CD's (as opposed to a box set). Personally I think that would really suck! That means I'd have to go out and buy LOADED, the alternate LOADED (disc 2 of Fully Loaded), PLUS an additional disc of outtakes/demos. No thanks.

Or what if the Max's demos/rehearsals were not included w/ the original material, taken completely out of context? A waste. As with everything else on the board, these are just my humble opinions, though!!

Yeah, I realized soon after posting this thread that my idea was kind of pointless. But since it's still on here, I'll clarify: I just don't like the PS&S box because the albums are fine as they are, and for a good-sized box set, it left out some rather important tracks. Well, that's life, though after buying the new Nirvana box, I realize a project like that can actually be done quite well. Unfortunately art is always a mess, and completism (is that a word?) is a sort of fetish that can never quite be satisfied. So yeah, I think I agree with you.

Peel Slowly is really just a collection of a lot of the studio recordings and a couple live ones. I wasn't disappointed; I knew exactly what I was getting.

Not trying to sound like a fanboy, but I've always thought it was one of the best box sets to come out. I have no complaints at all. Well, maybe the first album in mono, as was originally planned. But overall, I think it's a model on how to do things right by a band.

This is gonna sound crazy but I think disc one shouldn't have been on there. I'm not saying it shouldn't have come out at all of course, but for that box set which would have been and was bought by not only the die hard fan boys but more like casual fans it was TOO special and TOO rare and in some ways not essential enough that it had to be heard by everyone, just like the four actual albums if you get my drift... Not even the Warhol Tapes are THAT essential TO EVERYONE. I mean it's the kind of special stuff that's interesting for the big fans to hear but you don't really sit around listening to it very often do you? One track ("Prominent Men", "ATP"?) would have been enough.

Maybe there could/should have been two separate box sets (not realistic maybe), one with all the official stuff and another with the demo/live stuff... I don't know...

Cale should look through his old cassettes. He probably has lots of old stuff, like Patti Smith and John Richman demos/outtakes.

Are you nuts? The first disc was the highlight of the box for me. Especially the versions of Venus in Furs played like a lament. I could listen to ten more discs of that kind of stuff.
