The 'Another Point of VU' series on DaD

For those not on Dimeadozen this a fan CD series of ROIO tracks of various artists doing covers of VU songs. I'm up as far as #9 but I understand it has gone as far as #16! I have some catching up to do I tell ya!

So, now we have umpteen volumes of this posted on DaD what do fellow DaDers think of it? I have to be honest & say although I appreciate the effort in hunting down as many covers as possible, I think its a so-so collection. Each volume has about 4 good 'uns and the rest of the material is either average or truly awful. Of the 9 I have listened to, I could burn 3 or 4Cds of the songs that I think are great.

Any other opinions? :D

I love those collections. And I think the sound quality is fine, although it's hard to listen to all songs from each collection at the same volume of sound.
As a VU fan, you sure wanna listen to VU covers, but you (or just me) dont know who else besides David Bowie and New Order has sung vu songs. So here's your chance. Many thanks to fracas64! And like his saying, "Some bands or artists are not very well known, but I think they deserve to be heard and their covers smell like VU spirit!"

P.S. Another Point of VU Vol. 10-14 and 16 are VU covers by Lou.

Sorry for bad English.

Ugh. Not me, dude.

However, The Yardbirds covering Waiting for The Man was pretty cool.

I quite agree. It's a shame there's no way to keep the recording levels close. That was the only downside for me.

I love listening to it and sometimes there's something new I appreciate from it. Most of the time, I want to go back to the originals and they sound fresh to my ears.

That was one I couldn't get into. Hard for me to imagine a collection of songs written by someone described as a *cover* but to each his own.
It's kind of like saying Neil Young covered the Buffalo Springfield or CSNY songs he wrote.
IMHO, If anything Lou insured the VU getting in the Hall of Fame by doing songs he wrote for that band.

I think it had more to do with the Honda Scooter campaign...
