3rd Album

Hi, my name's Gareth and I'm new to the forum. I've been into the VU for about 17, 18 years. I have a copy of the 3rd album's Val Valentin mix on tape. Does anybody know if this mix is still commerically available, as opposed to the more commonly known "closet" mix? My tape copy is very old and I'm worried that it's going to fall apart on me.
Thanks in advance,
Gareth

It's actually the more commonly available version. The CD version of the 3rd album is the Valentin mix; the Closet mix is only available from the Peel Slowly and See boxset and the What Goes On boxset.

It depends where you are in the world - in Europe we've had the closet mix as the prevalent version. Get a standard US CD off ebay if you want the Valentin mix.
I've never looked into this (and has probably been covered at length), but I think there are also two different takes of Some Kinda Love used on some of the different versions. In the 80s a guy in a shared house I was living in had a 70s/80s German (?) vinyl pressing which had the Valentin mix and the other SKL, whih sounded more natural and less constrained.
[and yeah, welcome!]

True. The Valentin mix has a "balanced", straightforward take of SKL which is very much like the 1969 live version. The "closet" take is far more out-there, esp. in the vocal department.

Which reminds me -- the original batch of 1996 CDs had a track marker fault which tacked the first 3 or so seconds of That's the Story of My Life onto I'm Set Free, which means that you start in mid-song if you fast-forward to TTSOML, or, worse, that you have less than a complete song when you want to rip it.
Does anyone know if this has been remedied in later pressings (if there were any)?

The standard copy I bought a few years ago in a London shop has the Valentin mix.

I live in sweden and bought their self-titled album yesterday, and "Thats the story of my lifes" got that track problem. So, I went back to the store, told them about the problem, got my money back, bought it in a different store and well... Same problem! Seems that polydor didn't care about changing it?! Anyone has the same problem?
Sorry, my english isn't the greatest!

My copy (purchased 3 years ago) has the same problem. I assume it's never been corrected.
