Lou Reed - 2003-06-08 - Meadowbrook Musical Arts Center, Gilford, NH
This is a great show, but has a major distraction in that there were two clowns and their girlfriends sitting between my wife and me and the person who taped this show. We were in the second row and it felt like we had fallen into an episode of That '70s Show or Starsky & Hutch. These guys were dressed the part with the mirrored shades and hip length leather coats, which really weren't needed on a gorgeous June evening. Anyway, it became clear very early that these guys had seen the show the night before in Boston and that if a thought entered their brain it would be uttered. Overall, they ended up being entertaining, but there were that few minutes at the beginning where you had to wonder whether they were going to ruin the night.
Unfortunately, this show is shorter by a couple of songs than most shows on this tour. Missing from the usual setlist are Sunday Morning and Call on Me, which was a bit of a bummer, but we did get to hear Lou talk about misquitos the size of Buicks.
