Okay gang - I have the new Ultimate Stereo set on NothingSongs. Disc 3 shows on my player as being 87:36 minute long. Not 78, but 87. Anybody else notice this? ain't that peculiar....

This is another example of how the Nothing Songs releases are sh*t quality bootlegs of bootlegs. I know Groovymusic loves them, but the data is lossy and put on inferior media.
Here is the latest word from the Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA.org):
A few media manufacturers have recently introduced 34 minute/300 MB (8 cm), 90 minute/790 MB and 99 minute/870 MB (12 cm) CD-R discs. To achieve these higher capacities such discs do not conform to Orange Book specifications and, as a result, may not write in all recorders, be accessible to all software or readable in all players and drives. Using 34, 90 and 99 minute CD-R discs is therefore not recommended.
It has been known for quite some time that 90+ minute CD-R's are inferior. But for bootleggers, putting stuff onto a cheap, inferior, single disc is a lot cheaper than putting it onto 2 discs.

CD-Rs? They don't factory press their CDs? Are their media known to suffer from CD Rot?

CD-R or CD, it doesn't matter. And they do not use a factory. It is a small-time bootleg operation.
As for CD rot, that issue was resolved nearly 10 years ago.

I'm curious then what makes the media so poor. I honestly don't know much about Nothing Songs so that's why I'm wondering.

See what I wrote in my first response. That is the answer.

I listened to the whole thing and it does in fact seem to last 87 minutes. I'm not overly impressed with the sound quality and there are a couple of digital glitches along the way.

Sorry to hear it, dude. Isn't surprising, though. Nothing Songs has really tainted the pool of VU bootlegs.

I always found the "remastered" labeled on a lot of their CDs a bit fishy. Are there any examples of them using inferior media besides using 90 minute CDs? Also, I know they usually package a CD-R "bonus" CD in with their items, but are the main CDs of the items silver pressed or also CD-Rs?
The reason why I'm curious is because I was thinking about buying something from Nothing Songs but now I'm not so sure.

Hey Penny, we have discussed this at length elsewhere in the forum. I dont have time at the moment, but do a search for threads w/ "nothing song" and you'll hit on more than a few opinions!
OK...I am off to work!
