Still waiting on Captain Acid to do his VU remasters, but came across this on a LR reddit forum, thought it could be of interest:

Re. the original LH mix before Quinne was 'erased'.

The Reddit post repeats the old 'this is what made Quinne fall out with Lou Reed' story. But the reality is more interesting. It's in one of the Lou Reed bios. Quinne took the new Blue Mask album recording to Lester Bangs (i think with Reed's permission). Lester Bangs slagged of Reed's lyrics on the album. Quinne in his wisdom took that message right back to Lou Reed. He unwittingly made an enemy that day.

Thanks for the link, I will give this a listen.

I own the original "Corky's Mixes" cassette - I won it on Ebay a while back. Here's a pic of the tape and here's a link to a digital copy of it.....

I liked the sound of this. Pretty good from a cassette. I couldn’t really hear a vast difference in the mix but the album had more ‘oomph’ and for that sounded better than the released version.

tbh I never thought that there was a significant difference between the cassette and the official release.

at the time, I seem to remember that the same seller auctioned a similar "raw mixes" cassette of "The Blue Mask" but I didn't win that one (I wish I had!)
