Cut direct from tape. £330. Collector's item in a similar vein to the Electric Recording Company, who recently pressed The Stooges' Fun House

This is a lathe cut, made one at a time for each buyer, allegedly direct from the master tape, so for once I don't think it's outrageously expensive, and it will probably retain its value. If my hi-fi was higher fi (and I had more money) i would buy this and play it loud through huge studio monitor speakers.

You're right. Assumed they were pressed – I had not realised that they were cut one-by-one. Lathe cuts have a reduced frequency response. And yes – they cannot be cutting 999 copies truly from a master tape. They must have made a copy of a master?

they say

For this project, Universal Music Group, the world leader in music-based entertainment, provided access to its archives containing the greatest recordings from over a century of music history. Our Mastercut Records are cut completely unedited directly from the original tapes..

on the video here it shows the cutting lathe and says they use a copy of the master tape

If it’s really cut to lacquer (as they describe) then the number of times it can be played is very small. It is said - only three or four times.

Unless they really mean an acetate.

The video looks like it was directed by Chris Carter.

In the early days of ebay you could see the usernames of all bidders - when there were rare VU records i was outbid by Tex many times!
I respect his opinion, If i was still in full time work I would buy it, but now I'm thinking "What can I sell?"
