Herbie lived in Ditchling, a little village just up the road from me and I met him a couple of times. He came into the radio station I worked in and we did a live interview. I talked to him about WOTWS and I think he said he got £14 for the session, no royalties obv. He was a really lovely charming man.

Also he was paid double rates because he played bass guitar and double bass ...

I believe I'm right in saying he played tuba as well (Goodnight Ladies). He was across all the basses
