Don't think this has been mentioned here before:

This is pretty stunning, but weren't a lot of the bootlegs that came out in the past ten years taken straight from a certain crowd funding project?

The book should be interesting. The article does mention unheard recordings, too.

I always wonder whether these BTP recordings (We're talking about Klimek here i think) covered the August and September dates when John Cale was still in the band. Is there any special reason why they only started in October?

The BTP and Hilltop Festival recordings weren't made by Jamie Klimek, but by "The Professor", identified as a student in the article.

If this includes rhe September shows w Cale this could well be the pinnacle of VU boot goodness

That Klimek guy was in Ohio not Boston, so this has to be someone else

It sounds like the tapes we all know about to me, but a book with input from Richman and his photos sounds good. I always suspected he is/was The Modern Printer.

On the other hand, all those bootlegs have been around for a while and easily available, so it doesn’t make much sense to put those out legally when most people will have them already… maybe there is some new stuff!? Time will tell!

You're right. So is this the 'Professor'?

His Boston Tea Party recordings seem to have started in December, so less chance of a Cale show from earlier in the year.

Who knows, not me.

It's always struck me as unfortunate that there's so little live documentation of the Cale era. He is a one of a kind musician and it would be fantastic to have more live shows from 68 with him in the line up. The few from 68 that exist like SSR and the April Heroin performance are fantastic. Can you imagine how good WGO or Ocean would sound with his organ playing?

it would be really good to finally hear the Professor's back story about these great recordings and even better if he has some unheard material.

But in terms of sound quality, I think what we already have is about as good as it's going to get.

Where's Jamie Klimek!
