Complete list of Velvets Footage?

I’m trying to write a comprehensive list of all of the known Velvets footage, and would appreciate your help. This is what I’ve got so far:

Note: Not in Chronological Order
1. “Making of an Underground Film” Broadcast - Partially Released
2. Symphony of Sound - Released
3. Moe Gets Tied Up - Partially Released
4. VU Tarot Cards - Unreleased
5. “The Velvet Underground” by Danny Williams - Partially Released
6. The Velvet Underground Eats Lunch - Partially Released
7. Warhol Screen Tests - Partially Released
8. Jonas Mekas Footage - Released
9. Roger Nameth EPI Footage - Released
10. 1966 PBS Broadcast with “Venus in Furs” and “Heroin” - Released
11. David Susskind Show 1966 - Lost
12. David Suskind Show 1966 (Danny Williams Copy from Alternate Camera) - Unreleased
13. “Sunday Morning” Rehersal - Released
14. Upbeat 1967 - Wiped
15. Boston 1967 - Released
16. Philip Johnson’s Glass House 1967 - Released
17. I remember Warhol made another 1967 concert film that was lost, but the date and venue escape me.
18. Upbeat 1968 - Lost
19. Texas 1969 - Released
20. Paramount Theater 4/17/70 - Unreleased

Out of all 20 of these films, “Upbeat” 1968 (of which only the audio track may survive, I’m not too sure) and Paramount Theater 4/17/70 are the only ones that show the Velvets playing a proper song, uninterrupted, from front to finish with audio. Securing releases of these recordings is integral.

Update: I forgot the 1966 Merry Pranksters footage. That brings us to 21.

Some of these are familiar to some of us, but I doubt that all of them are familiar to all of us. Thus it would be good if you could specify them more precisely than, for instance, “Boston 1967” or “1966 Merry Pranksters footage.”

Also, please note that for #9 Nameth’s given name was Ronald, not Roger.

There's Gerard Malanga's silent Paraphernalia footage from 1966. You'll have seen it, with the silver balloons.

I did this a long time ago but it's somewhat out of date now and there are one or two errors - eg the extant copy of the 1965 CBS sound has no VU audio.

When you say :
14. Upbeat 1967 - Wiped and
18. Upbeat 1968 - Lost,
what do you mean? Lost but not wiped?

I think the Underberger book suggests there were maybe three Upbeat appearances. From memory.

Everything by the Velvets on “Upbeat” was (most likely) super. The April, 1968 show survived because Tony Conrad taped his own personal copy off of his TV. I have no idea where it is. I only listed the two “Upbeat” shows for which documentation survives.

“Boston 1967” is Andy Warhol’s “The Velvet a Underground in Boston” concert film. It’s pretty well known, so I didn’t elaborate that much. The Merry Pranksters footage is an EPI concert film that appeared on a Ken Kesey DVD After it was mistakenly branded as Acid Test footage. There’s one or two seconds of Moe Tucker. That’s about all we know. There’s a threat about it on this forum.

Those were only examples. Every item on the list needs elaboration for it to be at all useful.

I agree with Phil - more detail needed and this would then be very useful. Re the paramount 1970 footage. I think this is actually silent film but the audio exists (in really poor quality) from another source.

My hope is that Todd Haynes will be able to "marry" Steve Nelson's silent video footage with the long-circulating audio of the 4-17-70 show. Any ideas on the best source for that audio?
