Is this Velvet stuff? I really don't know, but here in the UK BBC4 will be showing "Tones, Drones And Arpeggios: The Magic Of Minimalism" on Friday 2nd March 2018 (that's today as I write this) with a repeat in the early hours.

Episode 1 features La Monte Young and Terry Riley so there might be a reference to JC and/or Angus.

Episode 2 (9th March) covers Glass and Reich.

Yes there was a reference there, minimalism influencing some of the biggest albums and bands of the 60s and 70s (Tubular Bells and Velvet Underground).

It seems that Stockhausen influenced John Cage whose disciple La Monte Young influenced John Cale. I guess we knew most of that.

Then Jarvis Cocker talked about the viola drone in All Tomorrow's Parties. I never knew that track featured viola and I still cannot hear it.

I'm not sure what Jarvis was talking about. There's no viola in ATP - the drone effect is from the guitar and piano.
