I've done a vinyl rip of the mono 3rd album from the recent Sundazed box set. I took the time to do it for a couple reasons: #1) The 3rd LP is my favorite, and I really like this mono version of the Closet Mix, and wanted to have it available digitally; #2) It's not likely to be released digitally anytime soon (maybe when they get around to a deluxe edition for the 3rd LP).

And since it's not likely to be released digitally, and lots of fans would like to hear it, it seems fair game to upload via torrent.

However, I don't think I'm in a position to host the torrent. The way I understand it, the person who uploads the torrent has to host it from their computer until enough people have downloaded the whole thing and can seed it themselves. I have no interest in doing that with my cable modem connection. My upload speed alone would mean it would take a long, long time for even one person to get the whole thing to seed it for others.

So do any of the torrent experts around here want to take on the task of making this available?

It's currently in Apple Lossless Format, but I could convert it to FLAC if so requested.

Well, for the moment, I've uploaded the rip to Rapidshare, in case anyone wants to grab it and check it out. Maybe someone who downloads it can get it torrent'ed.

If this is not cool, then I'll remove the link. Please, forum admins, don't ban me! Please, Universal, Sundazed, The Velvet Underground Partnership, et. al, please don't sue me! I just want to share this excellent mono remaster with fellow Velvet-heads who might enjoy it, in the absence of a digital version of this material being available for sale.

I did not include an NFO file, so for those of you who enjoy following the lineage of these things, here's how I got this from a wax slab to digital bits and bytes:

The Velvet Underground, "The Velvet Underground", mono version LP, Sundazed 2012, from the box set "The Verve/MGM Albums"
Aiwa PX-E860 turntable, with Audio-Technica ATN 3600 diamond-tip stylus --> Harman/Kardon AVR 2650 receiver --> Griffin iMic for real-time analog-to-digital processing --> Roxio Spin Doctor running on a 15" MacBook Pro (2012 "Retina Display" model) --> output to AIFF file --> opened AIFF in Audacity 2.0.2 to edit out opening/closing silence and record-flip, add "labels" to denote track names and where they begin and end, run the Click Removal effect to strip out some vinyl pops and crackles, normalize to -1 DB, and finally to export to FLAC. The metadata editor in Audacity gave me a little trouble so track numbers, names, etc. were all messed up, so I ran the FLACs through XLD (the X Lossless Decoder) to convert to Apple Lossless so that I could edit the metadata within iTunes and add album art easily. Zipped up the folder with the .m4a Apple Lossless files and uploaded to Rapidshare.

Hopefully this is cool with everyone and some folks enjoy it. If your music-playing software doesn't play AAC (.m4a) files, then either download iTunes or VLC. I may fix the metadata in the FLAC version and upload that, if there is popular demand.

I have had some requests to rip the "1969" ("Lost fourth album") vinyl from the same set, as it is also not available digitally. I had hoped to do it this weekend after I got back from a business trip, but recuperating from my trip took precedence over everything else. I will do it as time allows (which could mean not until next weekend), and report back when it's uploaded.

Thank-you leamanc, it was good to be able to hear 3rd. It survived being turned into mono very well and I've been enjoying hearing it.

I have been listening to the mono Sundazed WLWH and think it is cut very quietly. It's about 3/4 of the volume of usual LPs which surprised me. Do you think the same of the 3rd?
