Upon purchasing a 4 track recorder with my first student loan, the first song i ever recorded was a cover of 'Here She Comes Now'. Not a straight cover, but a mix of the original and the demo version so it has that arpeggiated guitar in it. It's as shonky as hell and i'll admit, i'm no singer and end up sounding half Lou Reed and half Ian Brown. All wounded yak, in other words.
I then went on to do a version of What Goes On which remains unfinished (with no solo lol!) and then, bravely, Lady Godiva's operation which i was happy-ish with, but could never lay down the vocal properly. Living in Wales, it shouldn't be too hard to find someone with a Cale-esque accent to maybe finish it one day.
All very amateur, but reading about the Velvets sometime after discovering them, i'm thrilled that i was inspired to not so much form a band immediately after hearing them, but to at least start emulating them. They really are that instant. Happy days..
