OK this may be a stupid question but does anybody who has listened to these know if their are any diffferences between The First Night (2 discs) on VU3 & The First Night (2 discs) on VU4?

Thanks.

Moving...

About "17 Demos"... I'm used to hearing about "22 Demos", what's the deal here? Was this a different tape or an edited down version?

"17 demos" is an edited version of my 1984 vintage "22 demos" cassette. The cassette was 90 mins and it was edited down and digitised by someone (exactly who I have forgotten - Simon?, Peter?) on this forum. I got the original cassette from a VUAS member but I think it pre-dates the Afterhours tapes by a couple of years or so.

The original "22 demos" tape dates back to the mid/late 70s, and is at least partly based on reel-reel tapes made from Sterling's acetates. My copy had a few extras on it - stereo radio ad for WL/WH, radio ad for 1967 Nico show etc etc, and was actually titled "23 demos".

Sounds quite a bit like Olivier's site's description of "Afterhours Tape #9":
The Velvet Underground Web Page wrote:VU : DEMOS AND RARE EARLY RECORDINGS
Here's 17 of the '66 to '69 demos in their original acetate mixes (much different in feel than VU or Another View). Plus these early rarities : 2 songs live from the EPI film, Noise, Loop, Index, More. Note : the 6 1966 demos are presented here at the correct speed for the first time anywhere. Sound : good to fair.

Thanks Gordon for clearing that up.

It's really great to have this kind of background to some of the recordings.

I assumed wrongly that it was an edited down version of the Afterhours Tape. 8-)

hey I may be wrong re my tape being the source of the 17 demos stuff - I hadn't realised that the afterhours version also had 17 tracks. I just saw the "17" and made the connection with the transfer of my tape.

Apologies if I've misled anyone.

What tracks are on the 17 demos which is part of this vine? I'll compare it with my "17 demos" CDR.....

Hi,

I'm ready to send the vine on now. There was a bit of a delay as my hard drive died on Saturday  and I've only just managed to get my PC back on line after having to re-install everything!!

Also I came down with Flu and slept from Saturday morning to lunch time today (in between throwing up and severe pains in my kidneys lol)>
I've copied everything on to my PC again so I'll post it when I have the details.

Anybody want me to disinfect/sterilise/burn the DVDs before I post them on?

well my cdr has the same tracks but in a quite different order. Unless someone has re-ordered them, I reckon the vine material is probably a transfer of the AH tape. Sorry if I misled anyone....
