Delighted with the new mix of I Can't Stand It. For the first time, it actually sounds like what it is - The Velvet Underground, banging away together in a room in 1969. In that sense I'd argue that the 1985 mix is more strange and radical as that's exactly what it doesn?t sound like!

I'm with you 100%. Weirdly, I think they listened to the first LR album version, and tried to make the VU version sound as much like that as possible. (I do have to say that I love the Japanese remastered version of VU, and particularly the guitar sound on Stand It and Foggy Notion.)

Oh yes, that new mix is what I've been hoping for: something that sounds more like the Velvet Underground. Love it. For what it's worth, I agree with David H; if you're going to listen to the 80s version of VU and Another VU, the Japanese versions are the way to go.

It's been a while since I have listened to those, but thanks for the tip to check the Japanese versions when doing so next time.

Sound samples of all the tracks from the 6cd's:

My opinion on the live matrix tracks: they sound very good, but I don't like the concert as much as some other live stuff (like La Cave 1968, Boston Tea Party december 1968) ... something in the energy changed, from more energetic, raw, powerfull to more laid back, melodic in 1969. I know I'm exaggerating a bit here, but it's my humble opinion :)

Just greedily listened to all the samples from the 1969 sessions. Fantastic, despite the squished MP3 quality. All those old acetate mixes pristeen at last! Coney Island Steeplechase with the vocals fixed! Can't wait.

The Matrix tracks sound nice too - I agree something from 1968 would be even better, but it's probably not going to happen!

It's hard to tell from such a short sample, but the vocal on the live Pale Blue Eyes sounds a bit weird!

Very much looking forward to this release.

Thanks for those samples, Falling Spike - from a quick listen (as if there was another kind ...), I feel like most of the 2014 mixes are quite similar to the mid eighties mixes, just better - Coney Island Steeplechase seems to have an effect on the vocals, but not the same one. It also looks like we still don't have a clean vocal take of Ride Into the Sun?
