Well I'll be damned. I forgot about this website; I have seen this one before. :)

I didn't want to start a new topic for this, but here is a new one to me: http://www.giantpanther.com/?tag=the-velvet-underground
"Lewis Allan Rabinowitz was born March 2, 1942" I've heard Lewis Firbank and so on; but am I nuts or senile? I have never heard this one before?

Ridiculously poor research.

As far as I know, Lou's father, Sydney Rabinowitz, changed his name to Reed. Lou was born Lewis Allan Reed. Firbank is pure bullshit.

Thanks Sal. I knew he was born Lewis Allan Reed; I know that "Firbank" was an old urban legend, but I now see where the confusion comes from. His father changed his name way before Lou was born. Thanks for the clarification. I knew in my Rolodex in my head "Rabinowitz" was floating out there somewhere; just couldn't place it. I guess I was too lazy to go to my books to do the clarification. :?

alfredovu wrote:Wow Rick, terrific stuff here! I saw it this morning in my usual Ebay search and though ... what the hell! Full sets of What Goes on and Fierce Pups on sale! I have seen rarely the What Goes On 1 and 2 (twice in the recept years) - I am still missing No.2, by the way...

As for the Fierce Pups Zines ... fisrt time I have seen any of them on sale

Good luck my friend. Hope you get for those treasures what you deserve.
Wow, am I disappointed. I started my auctions at .99cents because it usually raises the bidding. My WGO complete set sold for $46.01, not too bad. I have seen just #1 sell for almost $100. The Fierce Pup 1-4 sold for $26.00. OK Now the Village Voice with 5 VU/Warhol related ads, including the Gymnasium ad, only sold for $27.00! I once saw just the Gymnasium ad by itself sell for over $100! I'm kinda disappointed; but now I know I must pay a few cents more in listing fees and start with a much higher minimum bid or have a reserve. Trying to save a few pennies up front cost me in the end. Cest la vie. :(

It's a different world now, velvetfan. I am a seller on eBay of non- music related items and they are bringing approx. 50% of what they used to a year ago. People have reeled in on their non-essential purchases and are spending their $ on food, gasoline, etc. I have sold many VU items on eBay in the past, disposing of much of my collection, some went well, some recent items not so well. One week something will sell for $25, the previous week it may have sold for $200. It's a crazy market now, not just in the US but globally. Hint- the Aussie's are enjoying this and are cleaning up!!! Best of luck to you in your future endevours!

Putting a reserve allows you to start at .99 cents to drum up interest and keeps
the items from selling lower than you would want them to sell for.
