I said this on JimJims too. I don't believe that the story of how the acetate came to be found is true, but the existence of the acetate was flagged on Olivier's site (as linked by Citizen Smurf above): clearly someone had heard it.

I was a bit wary of the Portland story too. Either the journalist got it arseways (as they tend to do 80% of the time) or it was planted as a way of getting publicity for a future auction.
Joe Harvard interviewed Dolph, yes? Mr D presumably had the recordings in some form relatively recently to comment on the diff takes, in the 33 1/3 book. Although the sessions were memorable, he wouldn't remember in that much details tracks he heard a few times 38 years ago.
At the risk of sounding like a paranoid conspiracy-monger, could Olivier's site freeze have any connection with the Dolph Acetate Affair? I dug up Dolph's email when the acetate first turned up on O's site, maybe I'll email him, see what version of the story he has.

Not a hoax.
I don't care if the story of how it was found is true or not. I know it does exist. I've heard it and it will blow your doors off!
There are several other differences beside the three re-recorded tracks.
European Son is longer, I'll Be Your Mirror has a different vocal track, Femme Fatale has different backup vocals, and more.

Thanks Sal for that post!
I too had doubts as to how the acetate had been found, not completely unbelieveable but at the same time 'a good story' but always believed that it was a genuine item as the scans & detailed info are on Oliviers site.
Sal, he hasn't updated the website for months - is everything OK with him? Have you heard from him recently, as everyone on this forum finds this lack of recent communication unusual..
Cheers

Totally fucking amazing. Wow - how was the sound quality? Was it mono or stereo? Is Polygram going to buy this? They really should do the Nico DE over again....
Thanks,
Chris
