Dammit....Sister Ray is great but Heroin changed the whole vast notion of songwriting i.e. tackling subjects that until that point novels & movies only did.

They wouldn't turn around & break it
And if anyone played a part
They wouldn't turn around & fake it"

Exactly true! You said it so well...I would say that Heroin changed things lyrically, while Sister Ray changed things musically. That's why this is such a tough choice

I agree with everything said about Heroin.
But when Sister Ray comes on I wish I had a spinal tap nob to turn
the stereo up to eleven.

I try not to analyse my vote too much.
I just vote for the song I'd rather listen to
if given the choice.

Sister Ray just holds a higher place in my soul.
It may be fun to revisit this poll in a year or two
and see if the collective tastes have changed any.
I know I sway between songs and albums with time.

If you fell a void because there are no more polls,
an idea for a another contest could be a poll on bootleg albums.

Thanks for all your work on the song contest arjan.
It was alot of fun.

I picked up a doctor - she's good with a knife

Works in a hurry but always worthwhile

Hey Arjan, this was really cool of you...probably a bit time consuming as well. Should all good things come to an end though? HELL NO!

How about a poll of everyone's favorite UNRELEASED VU stuff?! Hey Mr. Rain, Countess From Hong Kong....stuff like that. Just an idea, bro!

if you're going along that train of thought... what about everybody's favorite version of Sister Ray? if i've counted right there's almost 20 different versions out there from various shows. that's one of the things i like so much about how they handled SR - each time they played it they made it sound almost completely different. it's as if we got a new song every time.

Both have been officially released... You mean non-album?
