The acetate was found over a year ago. It was first mentioned in Joe Harvard's book "The Velvet Underground and Nico" in the 33 1/3 series which was published in the spring of '04.
Rolling Stone is working on an article about the acetate and its possible future now.
I'm a bit curious - where do fans think this ranks in terms of importance in the whole convoluted VU saga?

Sal, To me it's second only to Gymnasium.

Oh, I'd say extremely important; not just within the Velvets circle, but within the whole context of modern pop music. That first album, man, you can't overestimate it's influence.
For me, anything with Cale is prime. Any outtakes from the first two albums would probably top my list, I love being a fly on the wall of the studio when musical history is being made.

The best solution would be to re-release the VU&N Deluxe Edition with the acetate instead of the mono version, or better yet, instead of the Nico tracks and the redundant single mixes.

Well, except Femme Fatlale & SM which has its extra little bits....But from what I heard some of the tracks on this acetate alraedy are on the original LP.

There would probably be more differences between the acetate mix and the stereo mix , than the mono mix and the stereo mix. In any case, I think most fans would love to here the whole thing. It doesn't really fit the format of the Bootleg Tapes, but it should come out. I wonder if the guy found out how it came to be in that rummage sale.
this acetate thing is a hoax?!?
