"Is it possible for you to torrent the CD?"
um - sorry - not at the moment, I'm still using an ancient Mac OS that is incompatible with STG etc.

Is it possible for you to torrent the CD? I would love to have it in lossless format...
But it's not encoded in a lossless format (torrenting is a mode of distribution, not an encoding format, so making a torrent won't make it 'lossless') ... just download the MP3s from the link provided.

As far as I know the Andy Warhol Museum still sell the CD if you're desperate for it in lossless format. Shipping is expensive though.

OK, this may be creeping a bit off topic, but I understand that Torrenting itself does not necessarily mean that a file is "lossless." The way I understand it is that the way the file is encoded makes it lossless. So if it is encoded in FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) and then torrented, it is lossless, right?

INFO I dug up on the internet:

How can I be sure FLAC is lossless?
How much testing has been done on FLAC?

First, FLAC is probably the only lossless compressor that has a published and comprehensive test suite. With the others you rely on the author's personal testing or the longevity of the program. But with FLAC you can download the whole test suite and run it on any version you like, or alter it to test your own data. The test suite checks every function in the API, as well as running many thousands of streams through an encode-decode-verify process, to test every nook and cranny of the system. Even on a fast machine the full test suite takes hours. The full test suite must pass on several platforms before a release is made.

Second, you can always use the -V option with flac (also supported by most GUI frontends) to verify while encoding. With this option, a decoder is run in parallel to the encoder and its output is compared against the original input. If a difference is found flac will stop with an error.

Finally, FLAC is used by many people and has been judged stable enough by many software and hardware makers to be incorporated into their products.

mg196, you're right, I didn't write it clearly. You still can get mp3 torrents on suprnova and places like that. I meant a lossless format torrented... And it's a pity Elvis can't do it for now. Thanks anyway!

I took a copy of the book out from George IV library in Edinburgh along with the CD, maybe you could investigate a local source.

The thing is I live in Argentina, I don't think there's a local source. Thanks for caring.

OK, I have d/l the MP3's and now want to convert to AIFF's for my own CD-R. What bit rate should I convert at? 128? 316? Are there general rules to follow in order to get the best sound?

Since the CD is still available (thanks for pointing that out, Rob), I'm not really happy with the idea of torrenting it anyway - the Warhol Museum need your support, if you really want this stuff lossless.
I can still scan the label and get the track details for you all though.

wow ... had totally forgotten about these.
I came across these on my hard drive today ,
all these years later. Was wondering where
the hell I got them. It looks as if the mp3s are still
up. So here is a bump for any newer members.
