We should build a Google Map with all the Velvets' venues around the States... Where can I find a database with gigs, dates and venues?

I found all the chicago stuff by googling. Search for the names of the venues and the city (putting them in quotations helps - "poor richard's" instead of poor richard's, etc.) Most of the time I found them when people mentioned them in anecdotes, like "when I was in college, I used to always go to Bla Club at 123 Whatever street." Look at posters and advertisements too. It takes some work and a few hours but you'll eventually find a lot of information.
