Wow... How come you got prints from Mick Rock's negatives?
I think he's my favourite music photographer - compared to someone like Corbijn (who is amazing, but is more of a portrait photographer than a 'live' photographer). Have you seen the DVD Mick Rock has made? He's going on about it on his site, and there is an article on the BBC:

If anyone has seen it, I'd be interested to know what they thought... I was thinking of ordering it, but have been unable to find any reviews online!

Did Bob Gruen ever photograph Lou? There is one of the great American Rock 'N' Roll photographers.

I agree with mg196, found this on a quick seach.... but looks later to VU.times.

Back in 1973 or 74, Mick Rock gave a big pile of 8x10 b+w prints and colour slides to the lady who ran the UK Lou Reed fan club. All the prints had his copyright stamp and handwritten "authority for use" on the back. I bought the whole lot from her a few years ago. Most of the photos are pretty well known but there were some which I've never seen anywhere else. (ie more pics from the King's Cross July 72 and other unidentified 1972 shows, pics of Lou and Mick in Lou's London hotel room after the June 74 shows, pics of Mick taken by Lou, polaroids taken during the 74 and 75 tours etc etc - some great stuff.) If I was able to scan and post them I would.

I've not seen the DVD - it looks very interesting. Did you know that Mick Rock filmed some/all of Lou's 1976 US tour dates - it was almost certainly his film of "Kicks" from that tour which was used in the "Rock and Roll Heart" DVD (that film alone justified the cost of the DVD for me!)

That sounds like an incredible haul there. I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Mr Rock a couple of years ago (Syd Barrett article in Mojo) and I can confirm he is an absolute legend. You couldn't hope to meet a more likeable, talented, insightful man. And he bought me dinner!

One thing that's impressive about him is that he's got a level of respect for his work that means that when he dips into his archive to make use of old stuff, the result is always something worthwhile. Hence the Barrett 'Psychedelic Renegades' being a work of art and 'Moonage Daydream' being an essential Bowie text as well as a collection of nice photos.

Hopefully Mick Rock's DVD will be even better than Gruen's recent release, "All Dolled Up," w/ tons of New York Dolls footage.

Wow, I can't believe it - you are so lucky! I must check out that DVD. Mark,you are also very lucky - I'm a huge Barrett fan and the photos Rock took of him are some of my favourites

I too have loads of Mick Rock photos of Lou from the early-mid 70s I will try to scan some of the stuff and put them up. Some of them are fascinating and unpublished. Meanwhile heres from 1970 VU (if I can get the link to work).
