It's too bad Lou never put out decent singles, as Morrissey always has. I think the two best tracks from his Ringleaders CD are actually B-sides! Ganglord and Human Being (New York Dolls cover) are fantastic.
I never said anything about Lou's writing skills. I said he put out crappy singles - and not all that many of 'em at that. Moz puts out TONS of singles. You could probably put together two or three more quality CD's (at least) with all of Morrissey's B-sides.Pop wrote:Are you kidding? Lou Reed is the best song writer in the music history!
Equal talent?! Sure, you could say that about Lou/Cale...but what has Marr done?! Oh yeah, he was in "Electronic." Brilliant! And don't forget, it was MARR who left The Smiths, not Moz. Great career move. And after that, Moz still worked w/ Joyce and Rourke for a time. Have you bought the new Modest Mouse? Marr is in there...somewhere.Anonymous wrote:Both Lou and Moz are absolutely incapable of working with anyone of equal talent for any great length of time:
Reed/Cale
Morrissey/Marr
Both need to be surrounded by sycophants whose sole purpose is to keep their paymasters' egos proped up at all times.
Jesus, I never said one was better than the other. At the beginning of the thread I said that their careers have a lot of parallels.embryos wrote:i love morrisey but when you put him up against lou..........are you fuckin insane?
Throughout most of the 70's Lou did not pick his own singles. He didn't even pick Wild Side. So, it was someone else's "genious" that got it wrong nearly every single time except for Wild Side. To me, there is a lot to be said about putting out disc after disc of music not included on the LP. The musician who doesn't do what his fans want won't be around for too long. Aside from MMM, Lou DOES care about his fanbase (regardless of what he may tell interviewers). He gave 'em the hard-edged street poet that we all love. In the early 80's, his sound fell right into line with mainstream music. Remember I Love You, Suzanne?! He is signed to a major label. He HAS TO care about his fanbase and touching new fans. In general, Berlin is considered to be his masterwork. Why do you think he is touring it at this moment, rather than Rock & Roll Heart? Because he DOES give a shit.embryos wrote:as far as singles go, lou does not choose his best, but thats part of lous genious. he doesnt give a shit if you like him, or his singles.
I thought that in Magic & Loss he tries to pull the listener INTO his world. Same w/ New York. he wants you to walk WITH him at the Halloween Parade. As far as being "untouchable," he ain't a god. He is a dude that writes music.embryos wrote:he wants to alienate you, disassociate himself from you and the world, when someone does that, they cant help but be untouchable.
You're new here, aren't you? Better respect other people's opinions and not respond in juveline four-letter words, son. Otherwise, welcome to the forum.bananaboy wrote:F--- MORISSEY!!!!!!!
And don't forget to spell MORRISSEY'S name correctly. When you want to shout about a put-down, it looks a bit retarded if you can't even spell your target's name correctly.arjan wrote:You're new here, aren't you?
