no: jam bands suck.

vu does not suck, ipso facto they're not a jam band.

logic is cool

I know they have some "studio jams", but I am talking more about noodling around with a song for 20 minutes or more. Sister Ray sometimes approached 45 minutes in some of their live jams!
Oh yeah, I agree,, I was just pointing out that the VU took it a step further - Sister Ray was a "jam" to begin with

Well, it's hard to argue with LCB's logic!

I cant listen to some VU stuff during their Jam Band days. I like it when the stuff is pared down, like at Max's.

I don't mind the shorter stuff, but sometimes it's over before I can really "get into" it. That's why I like the longer stuff. I've even had a friend blend two versions together so that I have over 60 minutes of "Sister Ray"!!! Bring it on!!!

That's artificial...

Better living through chemistry!

BRING IT ON!

Can't ever get enough Sister Ray!

How ironic. That recording of 'Some Kinda Love' is the most "jam-band moment" of The VU.

Candy Velvet asked which two versions of Sister Ray my friend joined for me. They are...

Sister Ray (38.00) ? The Matrix, San Francisco ? Quine Tapes (disc 2)

Sister Ray (24.03) ? Family Dog, San Francisco ? Quine Tapes (disc 1)

It's not a perfect match, but the Matrix version is very long and dreamy and ends very quietly. Then, putting the Family Dog version next, with it's slow and lyrical beginning, they just sort of flow together for me into one very long and extended "jam".

I know it's artificial, but I like it. Listening to it/them alone in the dark I can sort of drift away into a "never-never land" of my own imagination.
