Hello all,
I think someone should start a petition to get a reissue, or a re-release of the second and (my personal favrite) Velvet Underground album, but in its glorious monaural form. I actually don't like it much in stereo, but the mono is an absolute killer, well side-a at least. Side-b is simply a stereo fold. What do the rest of you think? Who should we contact. Does Verve still posess the masters?

White Light/White Heat MONO re-release
Do you know that, arzep? I've been wondering forever exactly what was going on with the mono version, was it remixed or just folded down. Everybody seems to agree it sounds different, but nobody seems really sure what the mixing details are. Where'd you get your info, careful listening or something else? You're the first I've seen who seems to have a definate clue, I'd love to clear this up for myself.arzep wrote:the mono is an absolute killer, well side-a at least. Side-b is simply a stereo fold.

Nice responses. Yeah I have done wav analysis, between mono and stereo. I am not entirely sure what your question is. . .The mono version of WL/WH is a WAY different mix, when compared to the stereo. Of course, it takes a careful ear to hear any difference in any mix of anygiven song, but these are pretty obvious. Side-A the title track for instiance the backing vocals are way louder the piano and cymbals are buried, and guitar and bass more prominant. Here She comes Now is more rythmic, and Lady Godiva is more balanced, well the vocal levels of Lou & John are. The Gift sounds more echoey, but I like th insrt better than the vocal version anyways. I could go on and on with details. Side-B: I have done wav analysis and it appears to just be folded stereo. This is what I thought because there aren't any real audible differences anyway.
