White Light/White Heat and The Ambassadors: Two skulls

Post by iaredatsun »

Am I the first person to connect the White Light/White Heat hidden skull cover, with Hans Holbein The Younger's painting The Ambassadors? The Ambassadors has a concealed skull, too. The skull on the Ambassadors painting is anamophically distorted and unrecognisable until looked at from a sharp angle. The WL/WH skull also needs to be tilted at an angle to be seen – until it catches the light.

More than likely a nice coincidence.

Oh cool nice catch! I think the story behind the album cover is Lou picked out a frame from one of Warhol’s movies and zoomed in on the tattoo. Andy suggested printing it black on black. Having studied art maybe he knew of the painting. Or was just being mischievous.

Probably the latter. Or both. :)
