late recordings with Sterling Morrison

Hello all,

I'm interested in hearing some of the last things Sterling Morrison recorded, some released officially, some not, all of them very hard to track down:

1. November 18, 1994 Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania John Cale, Sterling Morrison, Maureen Tucker. Performing music to accompany Andy Warhol's silent films Eat and Kiss. Tape: audience, 80 min, B. (description from Olivier's site). - I actually like some of the released soundtrack, recorded a year later with Cale on keyboards, Mo Tucker, BJ Cole on pedal steel, and strings. I'd love to hear the original version with most of the Velvets! Does anyone have this - is it interesting sounding - passably recorded? Please let me know how I might be able to hear it or trade for it.

2. People Who Died - Antartida soundtrack, also with Cale, Sterling and Mo, but add Chris Spedding. Jim Carroll cover. Is there anything else from this recording session? Does anyone there have a copy of this to trade?

3. Even More Vengeance (hard to find Velvets bootleg) - this has some recordings of Lou, Cale and Sterling doing some Drella songs at a SUNY school (?) Would be interested in trading for this.

4. June 15, 1990, Fondation Cartier, Jouy-En-Josas, France - this concert has Drella material and Heroin. Does anyone know if the entire Velvets play on the Drella material. Would gladly trade for this.

That's all I know about - I have the Luna tracks from Bewitched. Highly recommended, especially Friendly Advice.

The Foundation Cartier show is available on the VU torrent site in DVD format... Drella songs are Reed/Cale only, whole band on Heroin. Information as follows-

I received this on VHS in a trade several years ago and I don't know the generation.
It's taken from two sources:

Source 1
This is is often referred to as the 'official' recording as it was made on behalf of
the Fondation Cartier. As far as I can tell from my research, it has never been released
commercially and would probably be better described as 'Pro'. It contains the full set
starting with Lou Reed and John Cale performing songs from 'Songs for Drella'. This is
followed by the first reunion of the Reed/Cale/Morrison/Tucker Velvet Underground line-up
performing a superb 'Heroin'.

Source 2
This recording was broadcast on MTV in black & white. It features only 'Heroin' with the start cut.

*Quality*
The quality is not good and appears to have been through several generations before getting
to me. This leads to the associated fuzziness and hiss you would expect. Despite the quality, it
is very watchable and I think VU fans will enjoy it for the performance of 'Heroin' which is historic
and very good.

I have it on a cassette somewhere - I'd need to visit the attic to find it. Give me a few days.

Has this performance been "officially" released in any way? ie could I seed it on Dime?

That would be amazing, lurid, if you could post that. I did some research on the net on this - this has not been released oficially, noy any part of it. The performance is "mentioned" on the officially released soundtrack, which is recorded a year later in Lille, France.

ok I found the Warhol Foundation cassette - it's a bit hissy but listenable. I'll try to transfer and upload it in the next week or so.

Did you know that Sterling toured (part of) Europe with Moe Tucker in 1992? I have a reasonable quality recording of the Salzburg set on 05 March 92, + an interview with Sterling from Radio Bavaria

Apparently, on the Even More Vengeance CD, there is a recording of Sterling w/Lou and Cale at NYU in '92 doing 2 songs from Drella. According to Olivier's site:

I met Sterling and Moe outside the Zap club in Brighton on that tour! Both signed my reprint of 'The Velvet Underground' by Mike Leigh. Sterling was interested to see that the book had been reprinted, and was also interested to know his importance to us in the UK

hi Scott, I'll be uploading the Warhol museum show tonight or tomorrow.

I only listened to part of it last night but doesn't seem to be complete - the start of the show is cut. The whole thing is about 75 mins long so I dont know how much is missing (I've not heard the "official" version from Lille.)

I do have a bunch of stuff from the Lille performance - a ticket and show programme, so I'll upload those as well as the 2 flyers advertising the Warhol Museum show.

I do have the 1992 Cale/Morrison/Reed songs as well but I can't find the tape they are on - I'll keep looking
